Any fellow floodians here have majors in Computer Science or enjoy coding? Just curious, I'm majoring in Computer Science and learning about Java. What are some of the things y'all have done with coding?

I studied it 10 years ago. Mostly took classes in networking, user interfaces operating systems and artificial intelligence. Sucked at networking and operating systems, but really enjoyed artificial intelligence. I also got a minor in art so I worked a lot with 3D graphics both from an art and CS perspective. Not sure what it's like now but when I graduated the market was oversaturated with programmers. Had a really tough time finding a job. Looked for work for roughly a year. Had a few near offers with Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and a few other government contractors but kept getting unlucky (Northrop Grumman was originally looking to hire 10 entry level guys but changed it to five mid level positions the day before our call-backs. At Lockheed Martin it was down to myself and one other applicant. He had job experience but no degree, I had a degree but no job experience. They ended up hiring him.) Finally, my cousin recommend I try teaching English overseas (seeing as I want finding anything anyway). I sent out some applications and had some interviews the next day. The day after that I had some offers. Now I've been teaching English for 9 years and am the director of a new English cram school. Went from programming machines to "programming" minds. It's actually worked out quite well though. The debugging we did in my AI courses translates amazingly (or perhaps disturbingly) well to teaching.
