It's a two sided joke.
The other answer is the exact opposite, "they don't need to be carried," which I think works better.

I thought of this the minute I saw "because they always get carried/they're used to getting carried" and got some pretty hateful replies after saying "orrr...or..orrr..it's because we don't need to be carried ;)" haha
