Being bad at a good game

I mean, it's objectively possible. But I'm on the verge of ragequitting H5 (just did, coming back to typing this) 'cos the piece of shit is driving me mad. I've never been a top-tier Halo player. I can have good games, I can have good runs of good games, but I'm never consistently laying the smack, month after month. But I was half-decent at Halo 4. My first ever game was on Haven at the Eurogamer Expo, and I got at least one double kill and a killing spree, not medals I tend to earn in my average game. At least not back then; getting those medals surprised me, at the time. Maybe because it was a new game. Now H5 has ruined that. I'm just too twitchy, the aiming is too keen, and half my opponents bob and weave too much sometimes for me to kill them. Very frustrating. So I don't really enjoy H5 as a result, not the 'hardcore' multiplayer. I've had like one good game tonight, out of at least four. So I'm not really compelled to return to it as a result. That's fair, right? Objectively, if I'm not enjoying a game, no point in carrying on with it. Can I therefore call it a bad game? Probably unreasonably, sure. But I don't enjoy it as much as H4 and previous titles. So what would be a reasonable, objective stance on it, for me? I know that's a contradiction, but there's nothing ignoble about anyone trying to be objective. P.S. Where the hell is Fiesta? Or is it just not matchmade?

  • You can't call something objectively bad if you personally don't like it.

    • I think it'd be pretty petty to call a game bad just because it doesn't jive with you, or you aren't good at it. I mean, I suck complete ass at Killer Instinct (and fighting games in general), but I don't think they're bad. In fact, I think they're quite good. Not saying you have to enjoy the game or like it (because you clearly don't). But basing a game as being inherently bad (as in badly designed) because you aren't able to learn its metas is silly. Truth be told, you're just not in 343i's target audience when it comes to matchmaking.

      • I have my good days, and then I have my bad days. I think the same applies to every one though.

      • I used to be real good at Halo. Then after lolreach I just gave up on playing competitively. I fared well enough in Halo 4 for the month or two I had it, and whenever I load Halo 5 its to dick around or run through Legendary with Yorkie.

        • When I do bad, I just drive around in a Warthog trying to run people over and draw fire. It's pretty hilarious.

        • I quit playing H4 because it was too easy. I will say H5 does bring back some challenge again. It's just too much of a skill gap for me now with how they do match making. Plat is normal for me but as soon as I hit the next rank I just get my ass handed to me.

        • If a game pisses you off that much it wouldn't be weird for you to quit. Halo takes a lot of practice, especially for me. I admit I'm pretty good most of the time, but nowhere where I want to be. If you don't wanna put in the time you won't get better.
Coming from a guy that played 6000+ games of Halo 3
• Dunno man. Used to be legit 40+ in halo 2 before cheaters made levels irrelevant. Nowadays I'm happy to go 1:1 in cod. Even back in halo 4 I wasn't doing well. Except one game where I was just 90 sheets to the wind, got matched up randomly with a party of 6 and went 50-0 on the gauss hog. A fun round Point is play it for fun -blam!- everyone else

          • I feel like Halo 5 is extremely competitive. Too competitive for me. I used to do pretty well back in Reach but I feel like I get smacked around in Halo 5 unless I'm trying my guts out and have a good team...

I'm the same way. I get very frustrated after a few bad matches. I try to keep playing and telling myself that I shouldn't give up, only to infuriate myself even further as every little inconvenience drives me up the wall. I usually end up quitting after I've had enough, and say how much I hate playing the game. But then I start playing again the next day anyway, or a few days later. cx
