If you don't wanna watch the video </3 You can read a quick summary. I'm down to answer any questions if you're still confused about this. An upvote helps me a ton <3 If you like this kind of stuff :3 you could sub. I put my all into every video.
Edit: I announced this video on January 30th. Just before I uploaded the video, Datto beat me to it literally by hours. I was devastated. I decided to throw out the video, but then Datto Himself told me to upload it anyways and not to throw out hard work. This is me announcing this vid on Jan 30: https://youtu.be/k_oBycUKddg?t=55s
Plus my video does credit him. I had to go back and make many changes. Datto's focus was on perks, and how accuracy isn't well represented. I highly recommend you check out Datto's video, he's clearly the best Destiny Youtuber out there, easily. This video focuses on the history of how the changes came to be, and an in-depth look on all these Mechanics, not just accuracy. I hope this clears up confusion, I was incredibly upset I couldn't get my video up a few hours earlier, but hey, that's Youtube :/ My other sources are listen in the video description if you're curious. Anyways :3
Year 1 had a tons of balance issues. The Age of Auto Rifles was replaced by the Age of Hand Cannons after AR Damage was nerfed. In year 2, Bungie decided to completely re-tune Range instead of nerfing / buffing weapon damage.
Range is now EVERYTHING. Range contains your Accuracy, Damage Drop-off over Distance, and your Target Acquisition. Aim assist and Target Acquisition are the same things BTW, Target Acquisition just sounds cooler. Yes, that's honestly why they changed the name. It doesn't sound good to say "this gun helps you aim."
Accuracy is a cone which widens from the tip of your weapon. Bullets can land ANYWHERE within this shooting cone. The tighter the cone, the more likely you are to land shots that are on target. Low Accuracy weapons can still miss, even when aimed perfectly IF you are firing from outside of your weapon's Effective Range.
Increasing Range also increases Aim Assist and Accuracy.
Accuracy has two states, Initial Accuracy and Final Accuracy (which I like to call Sustained Accuracy). The longer you fire, the wider your accuracy cone - more missed shots. Bungie wants you to take your time and place your shots.
ADS (aim down sights) Accuracy is basically really tight Hip Fire Accuracy. The bullet doesn't necessarily hit dead center of where you aim.
I FORGOT TO MENTION ZOOM!!! Here's my 90-second run through of Zoom. YES, it matters lol it actually matters a lot. Zoom is a range MULTIPLIER https://youtu.be/CPKhEKyyMA0
I made a second post about this Zoom video alone. If you'd like to help me out <3 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/194470803

Knew the info anyway but I love hearing it explained in different ways . The only the only thing ill say is that I disagree that destiny can't be competitive because shots are "rng" . The cone when you are shooting is so tight when in effective range that it isn'ta luck. If your shot is reliant on luck, that is punishment for shooting out of your range . Its like an indirect nerf to range . The exception to this cone is the last word, it has quite a wide cone even when in its intended range . That is the pay off for it being so effective but I agree that does suck when 1v1 with 2 last words that its luck who wins . To sum, saying that all shots are rng and that it means destiny can't be competitive means you have to greatly exaggerate the size of the cone . The cone is a way of holding back guns performing out of range .

Aim assist makes your aim move on a target when they get in front of your aim. It moves your reticle to which direction they went. (Right/Left) Slow or Fast movement of reticle depending on how much aim assist. Aim assist doesn't lock onto your head. People just have skill.

Edited by IronDragonfruit: 3/1/2016 7:59:48 PMCan you check my sniper and tell me what I should be running for better target acquisition? (on my hunter)

Thank you so much

Good joarb.

I'd rather watch your video than anything Datto does anyway. I knew all this already from a podcast awhile back but it's still very informative. Nice job.
-
Good share, Imagine with the resources bungie has releasing information like this how good it would be.
-
Dude.. can't believe some of the asshats and the douche canoe comments they put trashing you.. seriously.. nice work.. you are helping the community with the post and prvided me with info I didn't really know or think about much.. thank yous are in order..

Hello. Good job on the video. One question: On weapons such as Hand cannons you obviously want to prioritize range over probably even stability. What about scouts/pulses? On those longer range weps should you still prioritize range? Is there a middle ground? I always go for stability over pretty much everything. Sounds like I need to change my thinking.

Bungie.net forum go'er used logic Is super effective, Bungie is confused.
Bungie nerfs fusion rifles
I've been heavily focused on Range especially since the 2.1 update. It really does make a significant difference. I max it out on a lot of my Scout and Pulse Rifles and I definitely notice the increase in precision kills. I believe that Suros DIS-43 that you had in your video is the same one I picked up from the Gunsmith a couple of months ago: Fitted Stock, Outlaw, Rifled Barrel. Maximizes range and Outlaw completely negates the reduction in reload speed if you score a precision kill. It's been one of my best legendary scout rifles along with a Tuonela with Rifled Barrel. I also use Boolean Gemini with Smooth Ballistics and Hammer Forged with maximum range. I've seen your other videos before and think you do some great work. Thanks for sharing.

Edited by TheMajorRuin: 3/1/2016 4:08:28 PMGreat video, and datto is in your opinion the best destiny youtuber out there if you ask everyone else you may find a different community opinion, ask datto about the oryx basketball court rage etc and taking other peoples youtube video content / ideas because there is no content to talk about anymore. I could have said great video and left it at that but as a decent person i had to disagree with you on datto.

I like the effort you put into this. I also think it's accurate. Thanks man. Subbed.
-
Wow. Good job. I am honestly very impressed. You aren't like so many other you tubers that just grab attention but leave you hanging, you grab attention and keep me there. You've earned a sub, keep it up!

excellent post, Guardian!

will check out
-
Nice and well explained.

Ya, I just adapt to every game and every situation by utilizing all types of weapons. Balance is a myth. Good players will beat bad players regardless of weapon types. Nothing is, or ever has been, OP in this game. Nothing needs to be nerfed. People need to accept that there are better players than them and learn how to adapt and deal with defeat. Anyone that has ever cried for a nerf of anything in this game is a nub.
-
So even your bullets are RNG now. Damn...
-
Bump please?
-
Saved to watch later. I remember seeing your comment on dattos video. Since you were respectful, even though obviously upset I'll give it a watch and a like if I like it.
-
Very good video. Question, what is the accent you have?
-
Once perfect gunplay has been -blam!-ed with.

My only comment is that target acquisition usually applies to the players ability to find or acquire a target while ads or hip firing. This is different from aim assist which helps with a players ability to acquire said target. One is something you learn to do, the other is a game mechanic.
