A group of fallen was assembled on a small plateau in front of the Ketch. Taking them down with a sniper was easy, and we were heading down within a few minutes from our discovery of the ketch. We had just started on the small incline leading to it when our radars got crazy. It was red all over the place. In front of us, vandals and captains. Behind us, more Fallen were coming out from a cave and seizing control of the plateau again. We did the only thing that made sense: we took a stand, Bomb and me clearing the path forwards towards the ketch, while Alec was taking care of the Fallens on the plateau, stopping their progressions. Then we split. Bomb and me went inside the ketch, Alec kept the oncoming Fallen on the plateau buzy. We fought our way inside for a good while, corridors after corridors, rooms after rooms. We had been at it for a good 20 min, in constant contact with Alec who had his task fully under control. After another room where we had to clear a servitor, we took a door right, up some stairs… and got to Draksis’s Throne room. It took us a bloody hour to clear that room. I thought several times we had overestimated our firepower. Those bloody vandals and dregs kept pouring down on us. Shank squadron kept trying to flank us. And Draksis… Draksis… We had to keep running away from him, with no other alternatives to run circles around the room. Convinced they had trapped us, the Fallen had closed the door behind us. Nowhere to go. Only victory or eternal death. No revival would come if we both fell… We made it. I lost track how many Novabombs Bomb used, how many times I slammed the ground… It didn’t matter. Draksis was down. And just in time, because Alec was starting to be overwhelmed. There was no way we would manage to get out the way we came in. So… we stole the Ketch. Alec kept shooting at the Fallen crowd while Bomb took the commands and I went to cut the anchors. It just didn’t go exactly as planned…. When the last anchor was loose, the ketch drifted away from the cliff… Too far for Alec to triple jump or blink to it…. Then a big boom resonated in the whole cavern. A freaking tank… we wouldn’t last long against that. That’s when Alec came out with a plan. Shoot the cave ceiling, he shouted, make an opening, so I can summon my sparrow. It was a desperate attempt, but we had no choice. Operating the cannons while maneuvering the ketch was a very hardy tasks for two guardians. Bomb did a great job at keeping that bloody thing aloft while trying to figure out how to operate the front cannons, the only ones he had access too from the pilotes chairs. Meanwhile I was trying to help Alec with the adds. Bomb got that bloody opening in the cave done in a couple of shots. Rumbles started to fall from the ceiling. With that and the tank shooting at the ketch, Bomb had to manoeuver the Ketch further away from the cliff… too far for a sparrow. From the hangar bay of the Ketch, I saw Alec jump on his sparrow, get as much speed as he could before rising high in the air… At the peak of his sparrow jump, he jumped off it and started on a triple jump. It looked insane… yet he was going to make it. I was so focus on him that I didn’t notice the tank’s missile before it him in mid-jump and broke the momentum he had. I was stunned… He plummeted to his death in an endless fall. There was no way we could do anything for him…There was no time to even try it either… Bomb thrust the ketch forward and we blasted out of the Ember Caves. Three guardians went down that cave… And only two came out. A tear run down Felix’s left eye. He turned towards Domino, his face still torn from the painful memory. - I never went back to Venus.
