Exotic History: The Big One #1
This installment of Exotic History is made possible by Herald of Fate
A man stood on the dull landscape of a wasteland, holding a Suros rocket launcher. He sighed and spread his feet apart. "Pull!" The assistant nodded and pulled a lever swiftly, sending the body of a destroyed Shank hurtling into the air several meters off. The man aimed down the sights, letting the soft beeps of the tracking system kick in before firing. The familiar roar of the rocket jostled him a bit as the carefully designed rocket raced out of the barrel and sped towards it's target. It met it in midair and exploded violently. "Another hit sir." Said the assistant as he smiled at the man. "Yes yes another successful test..." The man grumbled as he put the rocket into a large steel case and set it off to the side with several others. He turned to look at the even larger pile that he still had to go through. "All to test the same d*** system..." "Well it is our biggest seller." Reminded the assistant. "Yes but we have other models! Other perks that are equally as valuable! But no, a Guardian can't hit a broad side of a Ketch once and they complain that it's the ROCKET'S fault that they can't shoot straight!" The man kicked the dirt underneath him, spattering his polished black shoes and further ruining the cuffs of his pure white pants. He stuck his hands into the emblazoned red phoenix pockets and grumbled some more. "Tracking is marvelous but if it's the only thing you want then go by a bloody Crux/Lomar model!" "Well the Truth is the best selling on the market... replacing the Ghall...." "Don't even say that name... That d*** relic almost tanked our business alone..." "To be fair, it almost shut everyone down..." "Exactly! Giving Crux/Lomar the monopoly! Because of one ceramonial piece meant to be displayed on a wall!" The man stirred some more dirt with his foot as he grunted. The assistant shook his head and loaded a Dreg body mounted on a thick log for the next target. "We are one of the few trusted companies to make rockets for the City! We should be above this, designing new models and perks for use!" "Unfortunately not sir..." "But all Guardians want is a rocket that does the work for them. What kind of lame excuse is that! Sounds like my ten year old nephew when he's tired of schoolwork." The man shook his hands in the air frantically. "If they weren't so useful, I'd give them all a run for their money and show how to actually use a rocket!" The assistant sighed to himself and walked over to the untested cases and half dragged a case by the man. "We need to get this done before night fall, sir." "You mean FOR a nightfall..." The man unclasped the case and pulled out another rocket launcher. "Very well... no sense in ranting." The assistant nodded, mouthing the words "thank you..." to himself as he went back to his post. The man steadied his aim and looked down range. "Pull!" The assistant pulled the lever and sent the Dreg flying downwind. The man aimed up and listened to the beeps of the tracking system before letting the rocket fly. It spiraled strangely but still hit it's target. The rocket smashed into the Dreg's corpse and exploded pitifully. The corpse and imbedded rocket then crashed into the ground before exploding once again, releasing the rest of its charge. The assistant sighed. "A fault rocket..." He went over to a large brief case and pulled out a spare rocket from the stack, bringing it to the man. "Here you are sir... Sir?" The man stood very silently, still watching the smoldering flames of the previous explosion. "Sir?... It was just a faulty rocket..." "No... not faulty... but a sign..." The man grinned as the gears in his head turned slightly. "Um... Sir?..." "Later my friend later... Let's get this done I have some ideas for our next big seller." The assistant sighed. "Alright sir..." He went back to his station and loaded another a log containing a pack of Psions all mangled onto place. "On your mark..." The man reloaded the rocket and grinned to himself. "Pull!"
