Others, yes. But at what cost? Those kids didn't even get the chance to learn empathy. They were just immediately dealt the punishment of death.

In case you didn't read the entire book, the kids were way out of line. They knew Elisha was a man of God and they knew who they were messing with. Their arrogance got them killed.

I mean they bash your belifes, why doesn't god do anything against? The freewill? But this freewill thing existed at Elishas century, doesn't it? Does that mean your faith isn't strong enough? If you say their arrogance killed them then why is crazy Lincoln still alive? That makes no sense to me. There are two possibilities: 1. God doesn't care so why should we worship him. 2. He's a fairytale.

Elisha was a prophet. Lincoln is an atheist, not an idol worshipper. Lincoln doesn't throw rocks at men of God because they are bald.
-
Edited by Akatosh: 3/4/2016 3:42:47 PMBut Lincoln is bald soon. ;)

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 3/4/2016 4:26:45 AMI agree they were being mean or even arrogant. However, murder is not a justified response to petty insults. Ever. God looks petty. As well as immoral or amoral, take your pick.
-
Murder? I'd say it was pretty just. Elisha was treated like garbage. The kids antagonized him and threw rocks at him. Is it murder if you see a great white shark and try to pet it? The kids knew exactly what they were doing. This is the same guy who called upon God and pushed back an entire army after him.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 3/4/2016 4:57:16 AMNice comparison of god to a great white. Seems appropriate in a way. No, it's not just. I'm not saying they didn't deserve any repercussions or punishment. But death? Imagine if everyone responded to name calling by killing those doing the name calling. That's a completely absurd notion. It's deplorable and so is defending it.

I'm not sure what they expected. They knew Elisha was for real. In the time of Elisha, the worshipers of Baal the storm god were dominant in the land. Their cult had control of the land. So, in response, God defied their idol by causing a sever draught in the land. God was ever present in the book and they full well knew it.
-
None of that matters. Murder for name calling is not just. Period. That's ridiculous.
-
Name calling was not the reason. The reason they were judged was because of their idolatry, their scornful words, and their mockery.
-
Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 3/4/2016 12:38:49 PMThat's just another way of saying they were making fun of someone/something. Still doesn't matter.
-
There were a plethora of reasons. Bottom line, they were being a jerk to a guy that they knew they shouldn't mess around with.
-
Like I said, being a jerk doesn't warrant death. Period.
