I would've enjoyed the hive DLC more had the game only been about the hive. Then it's about fighting this one enemy, these creatures of darkness who are essentially gods. But because we have four different enemy types (and no, taken are just enemy variants in my opinion) then it feels like give is being stuffed down our throats while the other stuff is ignored
