I have Aspergers and yes, sometimes the term gets bandied about by people who really have no idea what Autism is and just make assumptions based on what they believe Autism is.
They're almost 99.9% wrong.
Occasionally it's used in a witty way or to poke gentle fun at our obsessive nature or our strange quirks.
I read far worse on here than that.

A question, what exactly is autism really, ive heard the term all over the place but i want to know in actual detail so i can really get what everyone is talking about

It's a neurological condition, present from early childhood, in which we struggle with social interaction and communication and display restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviours and interests. We don't get people, have little to no interest in others, struggle with making friends because we don't understand the rules of social play or small talk. We have special interests over which we obsess . We love routines and lists and see patterns in things that others would see as everyday. But really, you have to be us to understand us.
But really, you have to be us to understand us.
Well I'd have to disagree about that. I think i could understand people with aspergers just fine. But than again I've often felt, and so does my wife that I have a mild form of aspergers.

Edited by Eye_of_Set: 3/8/2016 6:51:43 AMYou either have Aspergers or you don't. There are no degrees of it. Your behaviours may be different from others with Aspergers but you still have Aspergers. And it's not about understanding us verbally or understanding what we are doing but understanding our motivations and why we are speaking or acting that way that neurotypicals can't get.

I have Aspergers as well so I know the feeling. People think that if you have autism, you're completely retarded sometimes and that you're easy to make fun of. I've seen it on Xbox and at my high school. The truth be said though, you can be the most intelligent and kindest person and still have autism. Some people, like me and you I'm guessing, are so mature and control our disability so well, that most people don't even notice something wrong with us. Honestly, I feel worse for the people who make fun of it because they're missing the whole point. I am currently in all honors classes, a great Xbox player, and an amazing swimmer, and I still don't let my disability control me. That is all I have to say.

Well I'm a bit older than you but yes, I control mine because I have to act normal in my job so it rarely comes out unless I have change forced upon me or something happens that disrupts my routine.

I understand. And yes, mine sometimes comes out when there is a sudden change. But overall, I can handle it very well :)

THANK YOU. I can never get this point across to anyone whom thinks otherwise. I'm not incapable of daily tasks. I can drive. I can clean up after myself. I can pay my own taxes. I've attend college for years now. My brain is just wired differently and how I visualize everything. I don't understand why the term, "autistic" HAS to be used as an insult, not to mention Asperger's. It's not humorous. It's the way I was born. I cannot change that. I can change my interests, but I cannot change my personality.
