Here's my ways The Division can learn from Destiny. Change 1: Match making - I don't want to walk up to a mission start and be able to start hosting an instance or joining another with match making. Make me go to a website and post on forums to find partners is I want to experience the game with others. Change 2: Too much content - Ubisoft, you done goofed, I'm 40 hours in and still have a good chunk of content including side missions and main story missions. It should only take me 8 hours to finish the story and hit the level cap Remove 75% of the content and sell it as DLC. Change 3: Speaking of caps - where's my currency cap? I've earned 75,000 of the in game currency and some people have hundreds of thousands. Uh ... did you forget to add a cap or something? Change 4: Locations - The playable area is too big, make it a lot smaller and add a bunch of baby bumpers that keep you confined to narrower environs. Change 5: emotes - I need them, I want to pay money to have my character slow clap. Luke Smith is so disappointed in you. Change 6: light level I'm uncomfortable about being able to reach the maximum level through playing the game and earning experience. I feel like my level should be tied to randomly receiving the appropriate gear. Change 8: Other - Weapon shaders: yuck. Gear trading: gross. A shooting range? Can you say gimmick! RPG elements: too complicated, need to be dumbed down. In-game lore: nope, just nope.

  • And again no I never said it had more. I said amd again I repeat " the division has nearly as many missions at launch as destiny in it's entirety". Now where exactly does it say more? But don't worry its only just been released. Very likely to end up with more within the first 3 months.

  • 26 vs 60 is not nearly as much haha and I was referring to enemy factions you know like Fallen Vex Hive Cabal Al look vastly different and have different attacks and abilities with distinct bosses and enemy classes within them. Not dudes in sweaters Dudes in orange sweaters Dudes with fireman suits Dudes with camo Al have a grenade guy a melee guy a guy with more health and a normal guy

  • Yeah well at least every dlc isn't about -blam!-ing bugs lmfao. Also those 26 missions are just missions. Not including side missions and encounters.

  • Although destiny having factions is another step up from division as they provide more gear in a game that's about getting gear. Lol

Every y 1 strike can be skipped mostly to the end. Most were completed with 10 mins. Nightfall end game tier coud be done within 20. 4 distinct factions that only serve as a means to buy different weapons and gear. Nothing more to them than exactly that. Now I have to give it to you that destiny does do alot of events. But it's honestly way too early to compare that aspect because it was just released less than 2 wees ago. Yes there are balance issue in the dark zone but it isn't unplayable. Remember when trials was postponed this year due to balance issues?

  • Ps I'm on this forum because played 20 hours of division and ran out of stuff to do and got extremely board so I'm coming back to destiny where in the middle of a content drought I still have some things left to complete after over 1000 hrs. If division has so much content and such an amazing endgame why are you here digging this hole?

  • Lol more back tracking. First raid group to ever beat it on normal died 1605 times... Don't think it was bs when it came out lol I'm pretty sure based on your intelligence level in this conversation you didn't beat it before hard mode came out. Bro you are seriously digging yourself a big hole, I'll give you this opportunity to just walk away from the keyboard just make up an excuse or something... Just walk away.

  • Except nothing i have said was untrue. And bs the raid was only hard the first time because nobody knew the mechanics pal. Doing 26 at level 28 or higher was easy enough. Also wtf did it take the dark below longer to be beaten the first time? Because they didn't understand the mechanics. Ill keeo digging because I am not worried.

  • It's a shame he never said that. He only said that the division has less story missions. I am halfway through the main story of division and I've seen nothing other than filler fetch quests tbh. The taken King had me doing more than that halfway through it, I was already the first guardian to board the dreadnought and was figuring out how to reach oryx. The story missions were better as well, in the taken King I found myself having to jump up this huge structure, go invisible and steal from an enemy stronghold and run for my life as I was overpowered by enemies. The story missions also had alot more humour and dialogue than what I've seen in the division.

  • not sure if not paying attention, or only playing side missions. Just because it's not crazy bullshit sci-fi fantasy shenanigans, doesn't mean that meaningful events aren't occuring.

  • And for the record, the mission where you have to be in stealth is in fact the worst mission. I never ever want to play that mission again it stinks.

  • You must be joking, right? First, these are two different game types here, so they are only comparable in their overall mission construction. The first 3 missions in the divisions are full blown story missions. What fetching do you do in the story missions? I'm taking my time to explore in the division, something that you definitely can do only in a limited fashion in Destiny. Just wanted to note that. And sorry but even though the voice acting is better, Destiny story is still overall pretty crap. And from the story missions only the first one and two others are any good. They're utterly forgettable.

  • The only reason people are replaying divisions story missions is because their is no end game activity, the day that the incursions are released no one will play these boring story missions.

  • even though I was only refering to vanilla destiny you are absolutely right about the taken king. and yes it was more STORY MISSIONS not "story" even though with the grimmoire destiny has a much larger lore even with just vanilla. SPOILERS in destiny I knew I was a guardian awoken by a ghost, had to investigate the darkness/hive coming to earth, found about the vex and cabal, had to get the eye of the gate lord go to the black guardan and stop the final boss... not much but atleast I knew something and it progressed as a story. in division you do random missions in any order eventually you fight a guy who betrayed you, even though I didnt even know who he was until his name appeared on my screen as the bosses health. the missions were VERY loosely tied to a story i think? im not sure. I honestly had no idea what was happening I was just shooting a bunch of guys that were all basically the same, with the exception of the cleaners. you get a cutscene when you bring in the NPC who represents the area of the base the mission was for where they all say " man its messed up outside, better get me lots of points so we can fix this"

  • If you had no idea what was going on then, a. you weren't paying attention or, b. you didn't retrieve the intel, echos, or do the side missions before you did the main mission in each zone. The Division isn't perfect, neither is Destiny, but to say that The Division is lacking an immersive story is ludicrous. Maybe grinding out each section before moving on to the main mission in that section isn't your thing, and that's fine. Typically, you aren't going to get the full picture of a story if you're going out of order from random mission to random mission.

  • I did a bunch of the side quests but once I realized they all consist of walk here and defend a computer or go kill a NPC with more health then other NPCs I will admit I tuned out the audio recording that played in the background and quickly finished them to get to a high enough level to play the "Story missions" which turned out to be more of the same. not great storytelling. Im not trying to say destiny is excellent story telling but the fact that it had cut scenes that progressed a story to a conclusion was better the voice overs while you are shooting dudes. they are both objectively bad but IMO the fact that destiny had cut scenes and a story flow/time line to the quests made it better IMO. in the division I didnt even know I had to go back to the base to talk to someone to view a cut scene until 3 missions later because I didnt see the small text on the bottom left of the screen lol...

But first, let me say that I really like both games and they both contrast with each other in a really pleasing way. Personally, I prefer Destiny's style and themes. The point of my reply was to contrast with the OP by doing what the OP did, which was picking out the flaws of one game and comparing them to the other game. As far as Destiny's story goes, I like the world a lot more and the setting is more mysterious and compelling, and while the opening few hours of Destiny is really top notch and got me invested, the latter parts of Destiny's story are just trash, it fell apart really quickly. The Traveller, once the most important and mysterious element to the fiction suddenly became unimportant, no more cut scenes, killing a giant ball of ink ... what? And there were no characters of interest or characters that had cool personality arcs or involved motivations. They all just stood next to a table and sold you stuff. Then TDB continued the lack of investing story telling. HoW once again ignored anything about the traveller and at this point, I still don't even know what The Darkness (supposedly the main villain of the game) is. TTK was a breath of fresh air, even though it still lacked strong characters and only gave us 2 or 3 cut scenes (and still hasn't given us info on the traveller or the darkness or the mysterious stranger). Sure, Cayde makes funny jokes, but once again there's no character arcs, Oryx is a terrible villain; I mean c'mon, we killed his son! Where's the cool interactions over that? He just arrives, like space Satan, with seemingly no clear motivation and no interesting interaction with our guardian. Although I like The Division's setting and story less (I've always been more into high fantasy than grim reality) I think the game as a whole tells a more tight and cohesive story and it has a lot more cutscenes. I don't think the characters are very exciting: stressed nurse, snarky tech guy, grizzled tech guy. The setting does not excite me, virus and quarantine stories aren't really my thing. But it honestly all feels like it was planned out and deliberate. Destiny's story starts strong (the opening hours are really incredible) but feels like it was aborted, scrapped and stitched back together in the most awkward way. The division doesn't suffer this problem. For example, the last mission I played introduced me to the prisoner faction, the mission starts with voice-overs and they continue to guide you through the mission, the environment tells an interesting story too, how the prisoners have converted the environment to meet their personality. Mid way through the mission I was treated to an echo (those digital memory things) that shows the prisoners taunting, tottering and killing JTF personnel and eventually leads me to see the leader of the prisoners, a lady, castorating a JTF person. When the mission ends and the lady is dead, I get a full cut-scene. This already is a lot stronger than almost all of Destiny's story missions which are almost exclusively in the patrol environment and are told with voice overs. If Destiny 2 doesn't have the same road bumps and behind the scenes drama as Destiny 1 did it could be even better (Bungie are great story tellers and they make very interesting characters and stories). As it is, Destiny's story lacks focus and direction, it feels like a Frankenstein of a plot that barely fits together.
