One thing is for sure... Its a PoE rework. Everything else is just speculation.
Doing a "taken" reskin of old PoE gear would be a suicide and the shitstorm it would casue would make the planet explode.
I just hope that the taken story arc will be finally closed and we can be hyped for a new enemy type in the big DLC comming later this year.
My personal guess:
The taken form is part of the Strike where we get "taken" in some form. Its not a shader, its not armor, but rather just a plain strike mechanic. I can already taste the salt. Not just ordinary salt. It will be salt of the purest form.

You know this update is just going to be a reskinned prison of elders don't you? I've learned over the past year to set my expectations as low as I can for Bungie. That way, I'm only partially disappointed when Bungie meets my expectations flawlessly every update.

Haha I'm at that level now. In December I thought we'd get a Dark Below level of content, some story missions involving the Cabal, a couple of strikes and a raid. Last month I scaled back those expectations to at least having the old strikes/raids updated. Now my expectations are so low, I don't think I can be disappointed anymore! :D

I have my popcorn ready. Whatever it is it's going to fall way short of expectations People are down on their knees waiting for the money shot and bungie is just going to throw a half eaten chalupa at them. I have zero faith in them and it's entirely their own fault for managing expectations so poorly over the last 2y and failing to deliver so often
