Answering Questions from the Oryx Lore post

Here are my best attempt at answering the questions from the Main Oryx lore thread AnonPig (Eternal) LoreDude
Killing us in ANY manner would feed his Worm
I still maintain that Worms' Hunger and Sword Logic are different (but linked concepts) as they are introduced in different verses of the Books of Sorrow, 1:9 & 2:6 respectfully, and in the timeline of events these are very far apart, with Auryx refusing to kill for the most part in-between them
Savathûn. You must draw Auryx out of his catatonia. Make him understand that the ideals of peace and stability he clings to are cancers — brutal, unjust obstacles between us and a fair cosmos. These are the bait stars the Sky uses to blind its slaves.
-Worm God: Book of Sorrows Verse 2:5 If it was just killing that satisfied their worm then there would be no need to convince Savathun to convince Auryx to start killing, the need to kill or be consumed would be sufficient. Therefore it is not the killing, but exploration and inquisition that is needed to sate the worm. However if you have any proof from the Grimoire or other sources that contradicts my points I'd love to see it ThatOnePhalanx
So Xivu would just crush us ( quite literally) and Savathun would lead us into a trap. I think I get it.
Most likely, infact it's a common theory that Savathun is behind the entire Hive story Arc, using Eris and by proxy the Guardians to kill Oryx ookshmook383141
Do the taken genarate tithe?
Unlikely, the Tithe seems to require Worms and the Hive Taken seem to have lost theirs
Stop praying. Give up your recitations. Your faith is fulfilled. You will be strong now.
- grimoire card, Taken Acolyte On the opposite side we clearly see Taken Cabal kneeling before Oryx in The Coming War mission and Bracus Horu'usk was granted position in the Court of Oryx, normally reserved for the most elite Hive, it is a possibility but a remote one. TheSpacedCowboy
he problem I have with it is that Oryx can just kill you with brute force. He will smash your sorry ass if you just stand on the podium and let him.
This is true, maybe as he's casting the Torn between Dimensions spell it'd count as Guardians failing to spot a ritual? I'd love to see what happens after the wipe though... Oryx: Oh s**t, my bad, my bad Vessel: What the f*** boss? you had one job man... Oryx: it's not too late, we can fix this!, do you know CPR? breathe dammit BREATH D0CT0RJK
but doesnt oryx pull us into the shade and try to bash us with a sword?
The key difference being the Sword, in the mission Regicide and the Shade Fight he's using Willbreaker, a Hive Ascendant sword which are filled to the Brim with magic, to put it quickly
Its blade is not dulled by age. Each death it trades for life hones its edge, gives it weight and gravitas and insistence within the vortex of its own totality.
-(probably Shaxx) Grimoire Card Dark-Drinker If you want to know about it read the Exotic Swords Grimoire, sweet stuff in there Ganondorf4Prez
what "tribute" do the hive give to the Ascendant above them?
Unfortunately this isn't very well explained in the Books of Sorrow, it just says Worms hunger & the hive pass the Title up the chain of command, with no detail as to the process itself. This system was only designed after Oryx became the Taken King however, so the Darkness may facilitate the process Veget8iveSt8
Also as you've laid it out, the lore above seems to foreshadow that Oryx is not the final Hive boss.
Indeed, from the Books of Sorrow we currently have Four potentials, whatever Nokris is, Taox, Oryx's 'Godmother' who betrayed him when he was a child whom he never caught and his two sisters, Xivu Arath God of War and Savathun, God of Birth & Betrayal. Of them my money would be on Savathun as I'm a believer in the theory that she's pulling the strings behind Eris and everything us Guardians have achieved is only because she wanted it Turtules
So is Oryx truly dead? He could be exploring the Void as a dead soul, who knows.
Well his death was held under certain circumstances to Crota and the Spring Update takes place 'after Oryx's death' so I'd go with yes, saying that I think Deej knows as much about the lore as a sweeper-bot in the tower so who knows? Haywife
Whenever I look at the raid I think of us using the sword logic to become powerful enough to kill Oryx. As we are always fighting things more powerful in the raid.
Sword logic is the other side of the coin that explains how we were able to beat the Hive, with every kill we grow stronger through Sword Logic and they grow weaker though diminished Title, I omitted it from the topic as I felt is wasn't strictly relevant to the question at hand and the topic was long enough as it was Ice Lantern
Why does Oryx summon a minion that contains a shield that allows us to be invincible? Why does Oryx even open his stomach? If he didn't, we simply wouldn't be able to kill him? Why does Crota summon a minion that holds the only thing that is able to kill him?
1. Will address that in the Light Eater Ogres topic 2. The ritual he's performing is a gamble, by exposing his weakness and the Guardians not stunning him he shows the Darkness he's stonger and convinces it to kill us, that's Doxology. He himself admits it's a last-effort Gamble
When I call upon that power, I put myself up as the stakes in a wager, I gamble with my soul. For I am saying, listen, my gods, I am the mightiest thing there is, and I prove it thus.
-Oryx: Book of Sorrows Verse 5:0 3: I have no idea, chalk it up to either necessary game mechanics, a minion of Savathun helping us kill Crota or Oryx dropped Crota on his head as a child and he's never quite recovered from it ZyKryptic
Can u do a lord post upon the whereabouts of the House of Kings and any other fallen houses?
Eliksni lore isn't exactly my specialty and I have little time to make this detailed posts, but here are a few tidbits, House of Kings has never lost Kell, Archon or Prime Servitor so they're still the strongest, even than House of Winter, Variks has hijacked the Awoken crows and is searching for the True Kell of Kells, Skolas might still be alive because of time-travel Untouchableboy Lots here so won't quote, but as someone mentioned the Warpriest is the facilitator so his Death is more significant than his own Tithe, also a Worms hunger is never sated, the more you feed, the hungrier it gets, Oryx has fed it so much that its appetite is beginning to overcome the entire Tithe system,
Lately I have realized how much I depend on Crota and my daughters, and even upon my court. If I lost them, my outlays would exceed my intakes, my tribute would not be enough to feed my worm.
-Oryx: Book of Sorrows Verse 5:0 Even a momentary disruption would be crippling for him. Secondly in Regicide we haven't dented Oryx that much yet, he knows his life's not really on the line so he treats it as little more than a sparring match, laughing at us even in defeat. Thirdly the whole "inverting throne world" thing is massive, even for him, he requires equipment made by his daughters to pull it off (that's the Dreadnought's super-weapon by the way, him getting freaky with space-time) and the first thing we did on the Dreadnought was to smash it up.
When the Flotilla surrounded his Dreadnaught, Oryx put his sword into the hull, and he used the power of the Deep (and the clever systems his daughters built) to push his throne-world out into mere reality. By wrath and confidence he filled space with an egg of his throne. It swelled up like a ghost star to smash the Harmonious Flotilla Invincible. Oryx broke the last word off their name.
Book of Sorrows Verse 4:11 Fourthly Oryx can't take Guardians because we're made of Light, the opposite of the Darkness and outside his jurisdiction, I know you mentioned the Fallen/Eliksni but the traveler only gave them a Golden Age, not light, remember Nolanbot's introduction to TTK? " Before that day there had never been a ghost, there had never been a guardian" we're the first of a kind, stonger than the Eliksni and immune to Taking (also he does take Dregs, they are turned into Vandals because taking removes all weakness) cS Annihilate
Can I have a TL;DR?
Oryx got space magic so has to kill stuff with space magic And that's all for now, great questions guys and (time permitting) I'd love to answer some more in the future.

 • With Malok in the picture now to take Oryx's throne, does that mean he would have to take up Oryx's way of killing? On that note is it possible for just any ole person to come around and take his throne once he's gone?
