She is what her name states a cloud of darkness created by the void that only has one goal, consume everything in the void.
The only reason she can be defeated by the warriors of light in III & XIV is because they are imbued with the light of the crystal.
She can take a direct hit from the beam & regenerate or theoretically since the beam is not imbued she can take that shit sitting down.

I'll dig around... I am not to sure, I thought I read that regen part somewhere, but it was a while back I will have to find it. even so, she is a cloud and if she were to disperse I'm sure they will reattach. But that's my theory and I'll look around for the lore.
