PvE = Player versus Environment. That means humans playing against the game itself, computer controlled enemies, environment hazards, etc.
PvP= Player versus Player. That means human players versus human players.
PvP has been in the games since the days of Pong.

I thought it was player v enemy and player v player. I don't equate pong with running around with guns trying to kill people (or campsniping with a gun).

Well it's the same at the most basic level, you're still playing against a human.

Technically, but handball is different than war.

It can be a sports game, it can be a racing game, it can be a shooter, it can even be virtual chess and still PvP is present in all of them.

I think that my preference in games has made me intolerant to the dynamics of the changing meta because I never played games in which the weapons and supers changed every few months...before D.
