Guardian Legends: The Dawn Breaker pt. 2
Here, I tell the untold stories of legends amongst us, and within us. Some paved the road for our future, while others went beyond the impossible. Tell me, will you become legend?
"Dillon, cover me!" Yelled Lauren as she ducked behind cover and reloaded her rifle. "Got it!" Dillon panned from target to target, shooting them. Dillon guided people down the road as he defended them. "Keep going! The City's safety is just ahead!" Titans deployed wards behind the last of the refugees. With walls deployed, strikers charged into the horde of Fallen, wiping out dozens at a time. "On our ten!" Shouted Lauren. Dillon spun around and raised his pulse rifle. Lauren took a closer look at the figure. She squinted, but her eyes grew big in fear. "Wait Dillon!" Lauren pulled down the barrel. Dillon looked at Lauren. "What?" He looked at the figure that Lauren was staring at. "Momma!! Momma!!" It was a little girl separated from her parents! She tripped and fell against a rock. A dreg pulled out a dagger and ran up to her. "S***!" Dillon pulled out a sidearm and fired once! The dreg fell to the ground, bleeding. All that could be heard now was the girl's cries! Dillon acted as a, willing, human shield for the girl! He fought off the dregs and vandals, absorbing their bullets. A vandal sniper hit Dillon's right shoulder with a wire bolt. He reeled, but he held his ground! "Ow! Sh-!" "Deploy a ward! Deploy a ward" Yelled a Striker as he punched a vandal. The girl had curled up and was screaming as she watched the titans fight. "Uh, um... I'm not super charged!" Dillon yelled back. Another wire bolt passed through his left arm! Dillon held up his rifle with his right arm and shot more Fallen. "I need assistance! I repeat! I need assistance on the south flank!" A second titan charged into the crowd. He covered Dillon as he reloaded. "Aren't you a defender? A ward could be helpful he- Ugh!" A wire bolt pierced the titan's helmet. The girl screamed more when she watched the body fall. Dillon took a third bolt through his lower abdomen! He turned and looked to the little girl. "It's time to go. Go that way! Run!" Dillon pointed to Lauren. The girl rubbed her eyes of all the tears then climbed over the rock. Dillon continued to cover the girl's escape. Lauren picked up the girl. "Dillon, I got her!" And carried her to safety. Dillon limped to the line of Guardians when another bolt hit his knee. He stumbled and gasped for air! Dillon lost his footing and fell to the ground! "Oh, s***!" "Dillon!!" Cried Lauren as she ran to the fight! "D***! That hurt!" Dillon flipped over and shot two more dregs. "The people have entered the City and the Fallen are retreating! Get that titan to cover!" yelled a titan captain. Lauren helped Dillon walk. "Thank you..." Dillon held his stomach as he limped forward. A striker walked up. "Hey! Why didn't you use a ward of dawn?! That child almost died, you almost died, I almost died!" Dillon looked to the striker. "Do not bring up that girl unless you found her parents! As for you and I... Have you forgotten who we are? We gave an oath. An oath that says we will die for the protection of the City." "I didn't ask about the d*** oath! I asked: Why did you not use a ward of dawn?!" The man placed his finger on Dillon's shoulder. "I told you already, no super energy. You weren't any help. You could have generated orbs of Light." Dillon pushed the man off of him. "Come on, Dillon." Lauren walked away with Dillon. "I got to get you to the medic." The striker watched them walk away. "Oh, so you're just going to walk away like a coward? Letting a warlock make your decisions!" Dillon looked back. "She's smarter than both of us." Dillon limped over to the titan. "And I apologize for using myself as a human shield. I was only trying save that child. I would like to get these steel rods out of me now." "A true titan would walk it off." The striker crossed his arms and waited for Dillon to say more. "'Walk it off', you say?" POW! "See you in the doctor's office..." Dillon limped back to Lauren. "F***er!" Yelled the striker as he fell on the ground holding his bleeding foot. A defender is measured by his courage, not his ward. Keep fighting, Guardians
