Will we be a spacefaring race within the next 500 years?
By "spacefaring" I mean the ability to live in/utilize space (asteroid mines, fast travel like lightspeed, harnessing greater energy sources, terraforming planets, etc.)

1 ReplyWe already have the technology to set up small enclosures that could theoretically support a small number of people in an environment like Mars or the Moon for an indefinite period of time. The problem is that nobody is willing to fund it, and nobody is willing to work with anyone else to make it happen.

4 RepliesWe can't travel at light speed if we've got any amount of mass. Photons have no mass whatsoever and they don't experience time the way we do. Now that that's been cleared up, yes I think we'll be spacefaring within 500 years. I hope it's something like Halo though with all the beautiful planets and the spectacular vehicles and weaponry and even the AIs like Cortana. Oh what I'd do for a trip to Beta Gabriel or Meridian...

Baring civilization ending catastrophes, easily. People seriously underestimate how powerful exponential technological growth is. At that point though, the human race might not be recognizable.

Too many variables. Political correctness, 4/20, Muslims are all contributing factors to our demise. Political correctness is self explanatory as to why its dangerous. Non-medical pot smokers or those 4/20 people are some of the biggest idiots in the world. Instead of worrying about more important things, they worry about their next smoke session. Muslims are the most violent group of people in the world and as you can see, killing all non-muslims. And as you can see, the video above proves modern muslim stupidity.

The only reason for us not being able to get to that point is if we kill ourselves off. We could go into another dark age (albeit a short one) and still be able to make it in time. If nothing goes wrong we'll probably be space faring within the next 100 years easy.
