Religion is an outlet for people that ask more questions than try to provide answers. And that Religion is also an outlet for people who are scared of death and the questions we cannot answer.

  • A more succinct way of phrasing this is: religion is a safe haven for ignorance.

  • More or less. Depending on your reasoning, but ignorance is definitely a policy when it comes to religion.

  • Maybe there is some truth to that. Even so, is it really so wrong?

  • Depends. If you center your entire life around it, yes (in some ways), but if you look to it for "protection and safety", that's your choice.

Basically it's the result of our struggle with uncertainties in life. It exists because we can ask profound questions but we can't always answer them.

Or people who find that having a community of like minded individuals forming a type of support structure can be helpful along with having a sense of morals to follow. But hey, everyone knows all religious people are idiots and atheists are all super geniuses who totally aren't neckbeard-scratching basement-dwelling virgins.

  • I never said all religious people are idiots. While some of course highly act like it, I know a good amount of religious people that are a hell of alot smarter than I am. I was referring to the people who base their religion on their entire lives. It's fine to meet and connect with people with the same beliefs. But my belief is alot of people who are religious chose it because they have questions that science cannot answer right now, and they look to a god for protection and false answers.

Those are extremists that believe their religion is above everybody else and they will kill and die for their god. Reasoning with them is not applicable anymore. They are already willing to die for their religion, and they'll do anything to prove it. The only way to even get close to stopping them is eliminating them. But there will always be terrorism in the world. As long as there's ignorance, there will be terrorism. As long as there's humans on earth, there will be ignorance.

  • There was also the Crusade, where people literally died so they could have their religion.

  • Killing for religion is morally and legally wrong. If you have to kill somebody to have your religion, or you kill somebody because your "god" says to, things need to change. Nobody should have to kill or get killed because of their religion. Set aside the differences. Let them be.

  • It was different in the crusades. Both sides were fighting to perserve their way of life. It wasn't illegal, it was war.

  • War caused by two seperate belief systems that led them to kill eachother because of what they believe. It's wrong.
