First off no we wouldn't have nuked Germany because the bomb wasent ready yet. And second Russia was our ally at the time even tho we didn't really trust them, so we wouldn't have nuked them either. And if you read the source I gave you, instead of just coming up with random crap. It says it was to reduce casualties not to stop Russia or anything.

  • Officially, yes. But we also wanted to keep Russia in check by keeping them from gaining footholds into other countries. Which, in hindsight, has been a VERY bad idea.

  • The issue is that the military officially stated a reason. The other reasons are hearsay or undocumented rumors, but look at our actions surrounding Russia/USSR activity. We never liked them, were determined to "stop communism", etc. If we hadn't decisively cut the war short, the Russia would have gone into Indo-China first, and that would give them a majority of Asia. Fun Fact: The Emperor of Japan was against the war from day 1.
