If I ever have the misfortune to go back to Crucible I'll test jumping out. Eh...shotgun melee was never liked, for the sole reason it was a shotgun. Only difference since back then is that you have to be right up their ass to kill with a shotgun, without it doing spitball damage, then melee them if they haven't shotgunned you. But it's all snipers now anyways >_>. Unless of course you then have a shotgun with range that's a good 5 feet....
