*slow clap*
Faith, there is, faith. Video game movies do have a chance for once.
If you're not already aware of the trope, movies based off games are usually 12% market bait and 88% shit. Tbh, the last decent movie that came from a game IMO was Prince of Persia, and that isn't anywhere near my top 20 list. However, Ratchet & Clank turned out great for a video game movie.
The only downside is that it's more fanservice than standalone film. If you've ever played any of the games, you need to see it. The movie incorporates tons of Easter eggs throughout and provides the quirky humor you'd expect from one of the games.
Yet, if you've never touched a Ratchet & Clank game in your life, you may want to go with someone who has or else you won't be able to appreciate it as much. The ball may take a while to get rolling but it'll take a couple weeks of thinking before my nostalgia goggles fall off. That post-movie excitement takes a while to wear off y'know? Besides that it seemed as if the violence was toned down a bit in comparison to the games.
All in all I give it a 8/10 as of now, since my friend and I had a great time with the film and unlike most movies I go to see in theaters, I wouldn't mind watching it again.

I heard that most of it was ripped straight from the game. Haven't seen it for myself, though.

I've heard they turned it into a kids movie and that if you haven't played ratchet and clank that the movie is god awful. Was expecting to hear better things considering most fans of the series are adults, and the fact they turned it into a kids movie says something about them not caring about their fans. Eh, I'll probably watch it at some point, but I'm probably not going to spend money on it.

Saw it last night. It was pretty decent, had some funny moments, but it was watered down to appeal to the younger audiences instead of the 18+ year olds (like me) who grew up playing the originals.

Really? Cuz basically every reviewer didn't like it

Did they use the Groove a tron?

They reworked the tone of the original story to appeal to a wider audience — great for families and Sony's profit margin; bad for original fans.
