Upon hearing of someone's excitement or interest in a popular game, many will immediately express their opinion in an unnecessarily disrespectful way. Why is this?
inb4 "because I can do whatever I want" edgy kids
The kool-aid point. It's bound to happen.

Edited by ValiantVic: 5/13/2016 11:52:05 AMI think in some instances there are people who genuinely dislike a particular game because of personal tastes, but usually those people demonstrate respect and provide legitimate reasoning to detail their opinion. More often I get the impression that other people like to talk trash about particular games because it is attention grabbing. After all it is popular to be edgy and confrontational at any opportunity. There may also be an issue where they have to play favorites because they can't play them all. This could be due to lack of time, lack of money, or lack of both... "can't have it, so trash it" mentality.

It's kind of like sport team brawls, but for shut ins

Why Do You Type Like This?
-
It's pretty strange I think. You can avoid games without having to hate them too, that's just more work
-
I firmly believe that if they hate the game well then they HATE the game. Popular games have more people end up trying it out. The result is bigger hate group then a lesser game
-
Same reasons people hate on celebrities or youtubers for being popular
-
Trolls gotta troll.
-
I think the better question is why do they hate games that aren't in their lives? Why do people go out of their way to hate a game? I'll never understand why
-
Ooh let me guess, you just got here from accidentally posting destiny somewhere you shouldn't have.

Anti-bandwagon bandwagon

Haters gonna hate.

Everything burns.

Hipster-ism

The ability of edginess is granted to you, for hating on a popular game for no reason.
-
Because the Internet is a sad place filled with nothing but hate & Japanese tentacle porn. But mainly hate.

Edited by EnbyousNova: 5/12/2016 3:10:26 PMIf you mean CoD, people are upset because they are realizing that activision sells each game for 60$ while adding NOTHING to the game itself. Each new COD could have just been a DLC of the one before it. 1 new feature and some new maps, and the same overwhelmingly half-assed story.
-
Example?
-
I don't know :/
-
Cause they have different tastes yes I will bash your game if it's something i don't like or hate with a passion
-
Edited by UNSC Snip3r: 5/12/2016 4:12:37 PMHipsters. Enough said
-
Because people are insecure about their game purchases and bash on other games to justify their purchase.
-
Because if other people say a game is bad, I have to say it's bad also! Even though the only thing I've seen about it is ONE TRAILER!
-
My best guess? It branches from the need that everyone has to want to stand out. People will deliberately go out of their way to do something different (usually having a negative opinion on something popular) in order to be unique in some way. There's nothing wrong with that, but it angers others due to the negativity. Basically, I think it's just human nature.

It's too successful to be cool.
