for example, maybe you leave the television on, or you leave music on when you go to sleep to help you, or it doesn't even have to about sleeping situations. perhaps you just need to have a sound on to feel less lonely or something. does anyone here do that?

Yes I can't sleep without music. Don't get me wrong, silence is my second best friend, but in the middle of the night is rather hear music then possible footsteps, ya know?
