I still play zelda a link to the past, castlev 1 and 3, borderlands two, pokemon, ect ect.
Most old school gamers if handed the controller while metroid is being played will take it and play, or Mario kart, ect.
We have games that not only have lasted two years but decades, pokemon itself is on twenty years, zelda one came out in the 80s and is still regarded as one of the best games ever made creating a mold that even games today still use. Final fantasy 4 is regarded as one of the best final fantasy games (was originally called two in america.)
I can list games all day, legends amongst other games that people today still play. Yet it's more to say that games now adays don't hold as much weight without leaning towards dlc, a gimmicky way for games designers to give us half a game and make us pay over and over again to gain a full experience.
Dlc should not be life support but instead away to add to the experience. Imagine if the above nes and super nes games where able to have made dlc. The games are already legends, but just imagine how much further they could have drawn us into their fantasy world.
