Here, I tell the untold stories of legends amongst us, and within us. Some paved the road for our future, while others went beyond the impossible. Tell me, will you become legend?
More pikes drove over the hill, shooting and killing several guardians. "Kyle?!" Yelled Dillon as he hid behind a rock. "Got any rockets?"
Dillon's ghost popped up. He was a dust covered, white shelled ghost with purple highlights. "Yes. It's our last cartridge... so, yeah, make it count."
"Thanks, bud!" Dillon loaded his rocket launcher. Dillon stood up and looked down the sights of the massive weapon. The pikes were too fast to lock on to.
"Wait! Hold that rocket, there are more pikes inbound!" Shouted Kyle.
Two more pikes drove over the hill. Dillon raised the sights to his eyes once again. The hunter and huntress ran to Lauren. "We are missing nine!! Nine are missing!!"
"What?!" Lauren looked to them.
"We counted, recounted, and recounted two hundred and twenty-two people!"
"Oh, Traveler!..." Lauren placed her hand on her helmet. "Any idea of when they would have fallen behind?!"
"Two klicks south was the last headcount. Somewhere between here and there!" Said the hunter.
Lauren and both hunters rushed to Dillon. Dillon turned around and looked to them. "What are you all doing here?! Get to cover!"
"Dillon, nine people are missing from their company!"
"Ah, s***!!" Dillon stood up, still behind the rock, and scouted the area.
"Found 'em!" Yelled Kyle. "But, so did the Fallen!... Look." Several pikes began circling a large area.
Dillon tapped his headset. "Captain!! Hold your rockets! Those pikes are circling civilians!" Dillon looked to see if the titans responded. The titan captain signaled for everyone to hold their fire.
"Dillon, what's your plan?" Asked Lauren.
Dillon looked around, trying to think. "Um... Everyone on me!" Dillon ran to the pikes. Lauren and the two hunters followed.
"What are we doing?!" Screamed Lauren.
"We need to get in that ring!" Dillon grabbed Lauren's waste. "Get ready to glide." Dillon threw Lauren over the ring of pikes. He looked to the hunters, nodded his head to the ring, then jumped in.
Dillon landed amongst the people and deployed a ward. "Lauren!!"
"What?! What do you want me to do?!" Lauren began panicking as she watched the pikes ride around them.
The hunters landed in the ward just as it began to fail. "This won't last long!" Said the hunter.
"I know! Just get these people out of here!!" Dillon looked to his left. "LAUREN!! I need your Void!"
The hunters constantly carried people as they jumped in and out of the shield.
With three more refugees remaining, the hunters jumped in one more time. Just before the hunter could make it in the ward, he was shot through the back. "Oh Traveler!!" Cried the huntress. She held the hunter's head on her lap as she removed his helmet. "Come on, Michael, don't die on me! Come on, just breathe! Just breathe!"
The hunter, Michael, raised his hand and rubbed the huntress' mask. "It's okay, Hanna... There are still refugees to save, go get 'em..."
"No! Michael! Come on Michael!!" Hanna placed her head against Michael's chest. "... His heart is not beating!"
"What about his ghost?!" Asked Lauren.
"He didn't have a ghost! It was stolen by the Fallen!" Cried Hanna. Everyone grew silent, the only noise was crying.
"Lauren, give me all of your Void." Said Dillon.
"What?! No!!" Lauren screamed. "I'm not going to let you-"
"Lauren, listen! We need to get these people safe! I can hold the ward while you and Hanna get these people out of here!!" Dillon dropped down to one knee, his body was covered in ice crystals, and his muscles were trembling.
"I am not leaving you here!!"
"Lauren, please!!"
"What... what about... Michael?!" Shouted Hanna.
"I'll keep him safe! You two focus on the refugees!" Yelled Dillon. The family watched the guardians argue. The mother cried as she held her baby. The father tried his best to comfort them.
Lauren took several deep breaths and forced most of her Void energy. Dillon felt new strength, he stood back up and strengthened the Ward of Dawn. "Good! Now, get to safety!!" Yelled Dillon.
Lauren's voice was filled with tears. "Come on, I'm getting you out of here." Lauren took the two parents' hands. "Hanna can take your child."
The mother wrapped her arms around her baby. "Are you crazy?! I'm not parting with my baby!!"
"Trust me! You'll only be separated for a second." Said Lauren.
"You. Are. Not. Taking. My. Baby!" Screamed the mother.
"Ma'am! Trust us!! We are running out of time!!" Yelled Dillon as more ice built up around his shoulders. He had taken off his helmet and dropped it on the ground. His face was a deep blue.
The mother gave Hanna her child and took Lauren's hand. Hanna and the baby jumped out of the ring of pikes. Lauren took the parents' hands and ripped a hole in the Void. Dillon saw the the pikes stop driving in circles. They turned towards to the refugees. "No... y-y-you... don't!" Dillon released all of the Void he had. The Void energy intensified the ward, then began to collapse on Dillon!
All of the sudden, Lauren blinked into the ward, grabbed Dillon and Michael's body, then blinked out. The pikes drove toward them just as the ward exploded, killing all of the Fallen in the facinity. Dillon and Lauren sat on the ground as the wall of dust covered them. Dillon dropped his head to the ground. Mist flew from his mouth as he breathed. The family and Hanna walked up to Dillon and Lauren. "Where's Michael?!" Cried Hanna.
Lauren didn't answer, she just pointed to a body in the distance.
That night, Dillon woke up back in the emergency room. He was wrapped up in an electric blanket, trying to get warmed up. He was still shivering. Dillon tried to flex his fingers, it was difficult but doable. Just as Dillon covered back up in the blanket, Lauren walked in. "How do you feel?" She asked with concern.
"Still like a-a-an ice cube." Dillon looked out of the window before looking back to Lauren. "Thanks, f-for pulling m-me out of there."
"Well, I did tell you I wasn't leaving you there." Lauren said with a smile.
"Yeah, you did s-say that..."
**Four years later**
Two titans were exploring just outside of the wall. "What are we doing here, Walter?"
"A friend of mine said he saw a titan that could cause a ward to explode, use it like a weapon. He said it was here."
"Do you plan to find something?"
"No, Alex, if this story is true, this is a memorable battle. I just want to be here." Said Walter.
"You might be on to something, Walter." Said Alex. "There's a burn mark in the ground over there."
The titans walked over to the location. There was a large charred ring in the ground, and scattered Pike parts. The titans walked around more, but Alex kicked something. Barely sticking out of the ground was a dirt covered, and filled, helmet. Purple holographic plates still illuminated the helmet. "That can't be! That can't be!" Cheered Walter like a child.
"What is it?" Asked Alex as he picked it up.
"That's his helmet!! That's, His helmet!!" Yelled Walter.
"There are initials on it. D, B. Do you know the guy's name?" Asked Alex.
"No... Dawn Breaker?... Dawn Breaker! The Dawn Breaker's Helm!!" Shouted Walter.
"Chill out! You're acting like a fan boy of someone that is merely legend."
"I don't care!" Said Walter as he knocked off the dust from the helmet and looked at it.
