Greeting Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks alike. I'm The Muzzy and I'm back with another lore post.
Today, we are going to taking a look at the Vex. Now the first thing we need to know about the Vex is that they wish to become an "emperor of all outcomes." This means that the Vex wish to set up a system in each timeline that guarantees their victory. Praedyth describes their systematic thinking as "The Pattern."
Everything must fit. If it can be made to fit, good. If it can't, it gets cut away.

Analysis of the different units
Goblin: The Vex Goblin is the most basic unit of all of the different models.
Hobgoblin: Hobgoblins are special units outfitted for sniping and energy transfer. They can be identified by the horns on the top of their head as well as the tail they possess. Hobgoblins have a special defensive reflex- when damaged, the Hobgoblin goes into a defensive stasis of solar energy that can damage attackers.
Minotaur: Minotaurs are models who's primary purpose is heavy construction, but they easily double as heavy combat models as well. Minotaurs possess a Void shield and have their radiolaria heart protected. They also use their teleporting ability very aggressively in combat.
Harpy: One of the few non-organic units of the Vex. Harpies are often deployed in groups for scouting patrols.
Hydra: Hydras boast incredible computation power, more than any other Vex unit. The likely are used in troop movement as well as processing thoughts from other units. They possess a shield of energy that rotates around then, dissolving the projectiles of anything that hits it.
Cyclops: Cyclops' were not intended for war. Cyclops' primary function seems to be a sensor of some sort, but more and more Cyclops' have been deployed as gun emplacements recently. Perhaps in time, the Vex will develop a new model of Cyclops, one that is completely suited for war.
A look at the Vex Arsenal
Vex weapons function unlike the weapons of any of our other enemies. Vex weapons act as tools as a primary purpose, and weapons as a secondary purpose.
Slap Rifle: The Slap Rifle is able to be wielded by all standard vex units as well as Harpies. Slap Rifles act as a terminal, taking energy from one place and moving it to another. There are a wide range of applications for a tool like this, such as a field transmitter or construction tool. The Slap Rifles wielded by Harpies seem to be made for combat only.
Line Rifle: Only able to be used by Hobgoblins, the Line Rifle functions much the same way as the Slap Rifle does. But unlike the Slap Rile, the Line Rifle uses a much more energetic source, likely the Vex central power supply. A Line Rifle is probably used in situations where a Slap Rifle does not give out enough energy for a given task.
Torch Hammer: The Torch Hammer is a heavy Vex weapon. It can be wielded by all three basic Vex units, and Hydras also wield a pair of Torch Hammers. Torch Hammers fire strange matter in an arc dealing heavy Void energy damage.
Slap Grenade: Slap Grenades are strange devices fired by Hobgoblins. The act as a miniature Vex gate, emitting a burst of void energy from an unknown location in an explosive manner.
These grenades are meant to drive targets out of cover.
A note on the Vex ranking system

Unlike the other enemies we face in Destiny, the Vex do not possess a standard ranking system. For one, the Vex are a hive mind, all feeding data to their legion's Axis Mind. They don't have any sort of ranking system because there is no need. Every unit knows where it needs to go and what it needs to do.
A look at the different Vex programmings

Hezen Corrective: The Hezen Corrective are the Vex all over Venus and the Ishtar Sink. These Vex seem to be charged with dealing with enemy forces, hence the word 'corrective' in their name. They can often be found in ruins of the Ishtar Collective.
Hezen Protective: The Hezen Protective is definitely the more mysterious of the two Vex programmings encountered on Venus. These Vex seem to be charged with protecting important Vex structures, such as the Citadel, the Endless Steps, and the Vault of Glass.
Virgo Prohibition: The Virgo Prohibition are the Vex stationed on Mars. It is unknown what their function or strategy is, but they seem to be in a losing battle with the Cabal. It is possible that the Prohibition has something deeper planned that exceeds its losses, or it's just possible that they are just the wrong algorithm for the situation.
Aphix Invasive: It is unknown what the purpose of the Aphix Invasive actually is. There have been few sightings of them, but the biggest one would be inside the Prision of Elders. However, they can also be found in a few parts of the Vault of Glass, in the Nexus Strike, and even on the racetrack during SRL. Because of all these specialized placements, it is theorized that Aphix Invasive's primary function is to oppose Guardians.
Sol Divisive: These Vex are found in the Black Garden. They are a subtype that has turned to worship, and have been seen kneeling before the Heart of the Garden. These Vex are age old, signified by the foliage growing on their frames. Their purpose seems to be the guard the Black Garden as well as act our whatever the will of the Heart may be.
Sol Primeval: Also known as the Precursors, these Vex seem to come from a different time or timeline, and seem to be much older models of the Vex than the ones we commonly face today. They have only ever been encountered in the Vault of Glass and the Black Garden, two locations that exist out of time.
Sol Imminent: Also known as the Descendants, the Sol Imminent Vex are ancient, seemingly coming from a different time or timeline altogether. Analysis has suggested that these Vex are future models of what we face today. They have only ever been encountered in the Vault of Glass and the Black Garden, two locations that exist outside of time.

Something to add for the aphix invasion would be the grimoure for Qodron the gate lord. He went into the prison of Elders so he could fight guardians.
-
I think you can find the Hezen Protective in a special version of the Dust Palace strike on Mars. You can find them at the Expel the Vex part.
-
Cant you find the Aphix in the Echo Chamber?

Edited by SpecterWolf959: 6/12/2016 12:58:35 AMJust throwing this out there with no backup at all, but could the Vex be us in the far far future?
-
So can different vex units be switched to different vex programmings at any given time?
-
another block of info that should of been explained in game with a cut scene which it would of if the original story wasn't cut and rushed.
-
I'm a big vex nerd, and this is great. Thank you.
-
Interesting
-
Nice info and great read. Thanks!
-
The vex are super future organic robots that own the past present and future. Designed to rule all dimensions. So which vex prick decided it would be a good idea to put theor -blam!-ing crit spot in their chest like a child's target practice for a spud gun?
-
Why wouldn't all the Vex cover their weak spot like minotaurs/pratorians?
-
Who's the main vex God or whatever? Atheon?
-
What are the pratorians
-
Isn't this just the Grimoir cards for each one copy and pasted? Maybe with less information
-
Good job kid
-
This was useless and Goblins can use Line Rifles too so it's probably incorrect in so many places.
-
You need to learn to English

Edited by Inkvisitorn: 5/28/2016 10:17:17 PMNicely done, but I would like to add that Hydra weapons are not Torch Hammers. Hydras wield far more powerful Aeon Mauls, which fire faster and in a straight line instead of the Torch Hammer's arc, and have a larger AOE/Splash damage. I would also like to mention that all of the Vex units appear to be made with construction in mind. Goblins are the workers under the Minotaurs who act as foremen, whilst the Hobgobins and Harpies supply energy/material necessary to keep building. Finally, the Hydra units plan out all of the construction, acting as architects.
-
Not bad at least for collecting a good amount of knowledge on them in one place.
-
Read some Taken Grimoire cards...they explain the Vex Body functions.

Edited by kittykun69: 5/29/2016 3:39:48 AMinteresting how the vex are akin to the Borg hive mind. And some great info

I thought the precursors are the vex that found the black heart, and back then the vex did less units, higher quality. The decedents are the future of the vex, where they begin making an exponential amount more but of lower quality, for maximum 'worship' capacity. The units we face today are in between those points, this is my theory.
-
A better more analysis is that the Vex were made to build, think, and explore. Their weapons are secondary. I don't intend to bash your post, but this is more of a paraphrasing of the grimiore. The vex were not made to fight guardians, but instead to continue to work towards dominating the universe. It just so happens that their secondary weapons were useful to fight us. That makes them all the more terrifying.

nice job
