Most of the pop songs from Mexico seem to have the same 3 notes playing on a drum. That bugs me for some reason.

That's American pop too, don't worry, except it's a computer or, in rarer cases, an actual -blam!-ing guitar.

How do you know if they are from Mexico?

They're all in Spanish, some might be from Puerto Rico or Central America. I also heard some in Mexico.
