So I'm finally upgrading Destiny from Xbox 360 to my Xbox One. How does it work?

Will I have to restart from scratch, or will my character carry over even though I'm buying the game all over again?

Everything carries over, you will even keep any raid checkpoints, you lose absolutely nothing, it's all stored on destiny databases, not consoles or anything like that.
