Disclaimer: this is not a shoulder charge Nerf post
I saw the balancing the other day and I think the changes made to hunters was good. Coming from a hunter, the changes are overall pretty positive for all classes.
But one thing
The Nerf itself doesn't make me salty it's the logic that goes behind it and here's why
Shoulder charge: Kills on one hit
Throwing knife: Does not kill on one hit
Shoulder charge: Same damage on every part of the body (enough to kill)
Throwing knife: Increased damage on head (not enough to kill
Shoulder charge: Doesn't use a melee charge
Throwing knife: Uses a melee charge
Shoulder charge: One and done melee
Throwing knife: Melee with travel time and drop
So shoulder charge is getting one hit kills left and right, but when a throwing knife hits an enemy in the head, has incendiary knife on, and happens to be thrown at a low armor target, it gets nerfed so that it does less damage. Why? So boohoo it doesn't burn a low armor guardian to death on one clean precision hit
I thought gunslinger was a class that rewarded precision
Explain plz
Edit; for those that need clarification out of context, this is what was put out during the class balancing
The Throwing Knife was creating some frustration, especially with the Incendiary Blade upgrade, so we nudged the damage down slightly. This will ensure that low armor players can’t be killed in a single headshot (with the extra burn damage from the Incendiary Blade upgrade).
Edit: I do understand that I'm comparing two very different abilities in this, both balanced in their own way. I think overall it was not a good decision to compare shoulder charge and throwing knives on the same level.
However, my opinion still stands that if a hunter is able to land a precision shot while equipping the incendiary knife the Hunter deserves to have their opponent burn out, especially a low armor target.

In reality SIVA infused weapons that have special charge physics that enable satanic energy dispersal rays that can cauterize targets after being baptized in...
ass juice
-
Yet low armor players can still die from melee burns on sunsinger and hammers.
-
Shoulder charge passive perk. Throwing knife not a passive perk. Shoulder charge vulnerability. Throwing knife can secure a kill across the map. Titan with shoulder charge giant dude in beffy armor slamming into skinny hunter twig. Throwing knife. A primitive weapon hitting an heavy armored target.

Edited by deivis323: 6/17/2016 4:14:00 PMBungo logic is fine your logic is dumb. You throwing knife it hits my space armor - it is no way I die.
-
Can you throw a shoulder charge across the map? Herein lies the difference.
-
The knife was causing some frustration?
EVERY GODDAMNED ABILITY CAUSES FRUSTRATION YOU WHINY SCRUBS!
I agree I am a low armor hunter main and when I got one shorted by the knife to the head, I was like damn nice throw man.
-
The burning and damage nerf for the throwing knife also for some reason reduced the burning damage of the incendiary grenade down to 4 (was 7) and so now you can no longer kill an enemy at full health with it. I hope this is a bug because if you land a perfectly placed grenade on someone, especially the incendiary grenade since it bounces everywhere, that it should kill a guardian. This is pissing me off right now and i hope that it is fixed soon

I feel like the reason is for balance around armor. What i mean by this is as such. A shoulder charge will always kill, unless you actively work to get enough armor to survive one (using ram or max armor + elemental armor) For this reason, it is always expected to one shot, and unless a conscience effort is made, it will one shot. Throwing knife does not one shot, unless you unintentionally (or intentionally) spec low armor. Either way, there is a level of unpredictability that comes from not know how much damage the knife could possibly due. It could one shot you, or it might not. There are 3 variables that come into play. If the knife a head shot? If yes, then you take more damage Are you low armor? If yes, then you might be close to one shot, or you could be one shot Is it a burn knife? If yes, it adds a burn you may have not expected to have to deal with. Compare this to shoulder charge. Did the titan hit you? If yes, you dead son.

Throwing knife, a bitch move when your mag is empty. Shoulder charge get blown out of your boots by a shotgun 80% of the time you use it.
-
Throwing knife ranged attack. Shoulder charge not a ranged attack.

Gunslinger nerfs were the stupidest thing bungie has ever done. I main gunslinger and have never 1 hit anyone with a throwing knife, nor have I ever been 1 hit by one. Also tripmines are basically useless now. I would have been ok if they nerfed the damage or the fact that they stick to people, but both? Might as well get rid of tripmine and replace it with fusion at this point. Gg bungie for nerfing 2 things that were never a problem.
-
My throwing knives never burned anyone anyway, they still don't....it's getting really annoying

Edited by The BEATDWN: 6/15/2016 11:25:10 PMI agree whole heartedly. I've seen hundreds of guardians crying for shoulder charge nerfs every day, and no one complaining about the knives. All of a sudden bungie's gift to the community is a nerf to knives??? I have been begging them not to call for shoulder charge nerfs because I'm fully anti-nerf but nerfing a class that didn't need it is ridiculous. My knives suffer because guardians that CHOOSE to rock low armor are dying faster then they'd like... bad move bungie
-
You forgot: Shoulder charge: Insane tracking (I've seen Titans make full speed, 90 degree turns to get the kill) Throwing knife: Virtually zero tracking
-
Take of the Knife's magnetism towards the head and I would accept it if it could one shot.
-
My main logic question is, why do GUNslingers throw knives and BLADEdancers don't?
-
I don't think throwing knife deserved the nerf, if you choose to run low armor for speed/recovery, you have to live with lower armor and dying more easily, that's the trade off. I don't understand the logic behind this nerf at all.
-
I've never one shot anyone with a throwing knife even with incendiary blade. Also the incendiary blade perk doesn't work half the time.
-
I was complaining last month about how it makes 0 sense that throwing knives won't one shot head shot. That feels like something that would feel rewarding. Takes alot more skill to align your shot and throw your knife than running towards somebody and pressing a button for a free kill. (You don't even have to be pointing at them to kill them, just shoulder charge near em and it'll kill them) even though shoulder charging is a bitch move, I don't think they should nerf it all, but if we are applying logic (clearly bungie isn't) well they should just go ahead and buff it more because nerfin throwing knives is just as logical

Edited by VapeValis: 6/17/2016 12:28:26 PMI read your post and agree with it entirely. Head shots with a throwing knife should be one hit kills. I've included a link to my song 'Ode To The Traveler' because at 42 seconds I kill a Guardian with a throwing knife head shot. His life was low but I just love the way the knife curled in the air. Good Post Guardian Happy Hunting https://youtu.be/FQp8XkyNb3U

Furthermore, you can make your class (titan) recover health if you get a shoulder charge, completely eliminating the risk of using it
-
Everyone bashes hunters yet titans defending a tracking, one hit kill move in a game consisting of small maps and corners. Throwing knives were one of the few things that took some skill, cause they dropped in distance. I have all 3 classes, titans and warlocks are by far the easiest to play and get kills with.
-
My experience with throwing knives in pvp are limited because I simply don't play pvp much and when I do I do not lean on my knife. But, pre nerf none of the three knife perks could give a ohk. The incendiary blade seemed to do less precision damage, but did tag the target with a dot. I always ran the juggler perk as it did more precision damage upfrount and opted to throw my knife as a kill shot on targets that were moving toward me (rushing titans trying to shoulder charge). Targets moving side to side were never a good target for a throwing knife in my experience. Aim assist helped me miss a side to side target more often than anything. The knife didn't need a nerf, but I'll test it in the iron banner and see if I notice a difference. I may need to put one additional shot into that Titan coming at me before lobbing my knife, just hope I have time or I'm going to start crying nerf.

Edited by Elitespear: 6/17/2016 10:41:56 AMWhy do you compare shoulder charge to throwing knives? That makes no sense whatsoever and more to the point, how does a reduction in throwing knife base damage affect your game play in any way? How many times will you go "oh, if only my knife did 10% more damage I'd have won that game".
-
I can't even recall the last time I've seen a throwing knife asides being hit by one in a raid while we're dicking around.
