Title says it all. I still don't see how having reforging would break the game. You can't have OP primaries because A: vendors are selling primaries with god roles and B: Nobody says "The only reason why he killed me was because his hawk saw had full auto while mine had perfect balance. Bungie please nerf?" Does that make any sense? NO!
The only thing that would be the same are the special weapons but wait....EVERYONE already have god role special weapons. You get one of the best shotguns and snipers from a quest, the best fusion rifle from a vendor, and the best sidearm from anywhere. If anything, not having reforge breaks the game.
Hundreds of fire-teams farming an omnigul strike for a god role grasp. Is that what we become? We should be on adventures getting loot not farming the same strike over and over just to get the thing you want and get disappointed because it has a bad role. Farming strikes is just another version of reforging.
What I think would be great is another version of reforging with more of a price. This is how it would work:
Lets say you have a long bow and you want it with explosive rounds and firefly. You just so happen to have another sniper with those perks but you don't want it. What you would be able to do is kind of like infusion, you pick what perks you want to transfer from the bad sniper and you chose what sniper you want to put the perks on. This only works for the same type of weapon with the same rarity and their light levels must be close (If the longbow was 335 and the bad sniper was 300, you would have to upgrade the bad sniper to level 330 or higher.) The more perks you transfer, the more expensive it becomes and you can only do this once meaning that the longbow can no longer receive perks from another sniper nor can it provide those perks.
Any thoughts or ideas?

I've thought about this too, it seems like a good idea and why not bring regular reforging as well, package deal!
-
Bring back weapon reforging. It levels the playing field in Pvp not to mention I'm tired of scrapping weapons I've been trying to get because the drop with garbage perks!!!
-
What about just reforging vanguard and crucible weapons. Weapons drops in crucible shouldn't be able to be reforged.
-
Yeah, it's rhat bad.

I had an idea like this a long while back but different in the way. My idea was all guns should have the potential to become legendarys, or basics. The way it worked was like this. Let say I'm after a gun with triple tap, rifled barrel, and firefly, I get a scout rifle. I like it's stats (let's say badger ccl) but it has none of those perks. So I take it to banshee and he actually does some gun smithing. Lol. He breaks the gun down and strips off all of its perks. Rendering it in to a basic badger ccl. (Grey) Now let's say I find a gun that has firefly and triple tap, I take that gun to banshee, and he says "I can insert only 1 of those perks into your badger" but it will destroy this gun I'm taking the perks from, are you sure you want to do this? I say yes and he destroys the old gun and upgrades my badger with firefly (making it common, green) Down the road I find a gun with rifle barrel and the process above starts again upgrading my badger (to a blue rare). And finally I get a triple tap gun that upgrades my badger to a legendary. That's obviously a simplify process, as there's still sights and 2 other selectable perks to add but the point is, you can painstaking make the gun you want over a course of time, it might take up to 3 weeks even. Depending on whether or not it costs marks per upgrade and you found a gun with perks you want. I don't think getting the weapons with perks to break down would be overly hard. Also a mechanic could be in place where perks may only be taken from legendarys, that way your not sacrificing a weapon you never had any intent on keeping anyway.

Reforging should come back but needs to require literally 10x more resources per roll plus marks
-
Maybe make a required ingredient a random boss drop, say legendary engram rare?
-
Nope but it will reduce grind time and thats bad for bungie i guess. They want us to grind to the end of time to never get what we want so that we can keep playing their game. This is a horrible business tactic on their part all it does is frustrate me and make me not want to play.
-
Great I hate taking apart my hard earned rewards just cuase they have rubbish perks.
-
Grinding is what bungie/activision wants. Keeps people playing in the hopes of that one weapon dropping with a usable roll on it. Makes the numbers climb and the money grabbers happy. While I love reforge and didn't see a problem with it in the slightest, there's no room for it in this game with the mindset the bosses have or made to have from peeps above their pay grade. You get what you want from this game, you move on to another. Can't have that now can we. Hence.... Artificial grind.
-
Reforging should come back. Didn't see why some players complained about it in the first place. Everybody is farming Omnigul for a god roll Grasp. Reforging and farming for a god roll is basically the same thing. Everyone will not stop until they are satisfied with a beast roll.
-
How about a compromise? Instead of just rerolling a gun, you can infuse a legendary into another legendary and replace one of your perks with a perk from the other gun. Ex. Gun 1: Hand cannon Exhumed (Oiled frame, Rifled Barrel, Extended mag) Luck in the chamber Gun 2: Hand cannon Rangefinder (Extended mag, explosive rounds, reinforced barrel) Grenadier I could infuse gun 2 into gun 1, taking range finder and putting it on Gun 1. This way it doesn't require insane odds to get a gun how you want it, but you still need to find the perks you want rather than just instantly having every gun become a god roll.

I very rarely get killed by a GoM.... It wasn't the reforging that sucked, it was the availability of the light and ascention mats.

Edited by Slate4906: 6/17/2016 5:20:16 PMYes, some people have god rolled guns, but they had to work hard for it or get lucky. Reforging would effectively kill armsday and any desire players have to try out other weapons besides the top tier weapons. For Example you get a tuonela sr4, the highest stability medium impact scout in the game, and get garbage roles and then you have another scout rifle that has "meh" base stats but has a god roll. You are more like to use the "meh" with the god roll, over the tuonela sr4. With weapon reforging, players are gonna be sticking to the favorable base stats weapons, because anything else is counter-productive, and keep reforging them until they get a god roll and that's just going to leave the other weapons dismantled or in a vault. Reforging would also kill this game faster for a lot of people. If you don't want to grind for a weapon this game is not for you. Bungie is all for weapon diversity, so no, it's not coming back.

It's only bad because the perks aren't balanced and they aren't designed to maintain a guns "personality". For example grasp is balanced by its bad stability which counterbalance eliminates. Making the red death archetype pointless
-
Just a guess... Reforging was just a way for Bungie to learn what the most sought after perk combo was. That's it.... Once they learned it, they ended it.
-
Easy fix: reroll one perk/scope/ballistics on a weapon. This way you still need to get 3/4 things you Wanted. But still could save a bad rolled Gun and make it viable.
-
Actors play roles. Yes, you eat rolls, but when you roll dice you are also looking for a good roll.
