Eh, he doesn't know that, and neither does he have much of anything to deal with it. Also, I have very little experience with 40k, just enough to know what daemons are, really. Gonna be learning as I go.
I heard the beast stagger, and looked back at the soldier. The man was holding his ground and, as far as I could tell, winning. Just who the hell was he?

 • The daemon began to retreat and the marine stood fast. Soon it turned and ran from the fight.

 • ... Ok, seriously, just who is this guy? It took me a moment - and the man I question turning to face me - before I realized I had spoken aloud.

 • "Lance corporal Nathan Blackburn, ISMC. That daemon is gone now, why'd you provoke it?"

 • Ser real questions ran through my mind in quick succession: who were the ISMC? Where do did this man come from? Where were we? Then, I recognized something he said, and a few thing clicked into a very shitty picture. "Wait, daemon, as in, capital-W Warp spawn, minion of capital-C Chaos? As in, 41st Millennium AD, Imperium of Man? THAT kind of daemon?"

 • "If you already know what it is why do you have to ask?"

 • A morbid laugh escaped me at that as the somehow-reality of my situation started to settle in. "Trust me, you wouldn't believe me even if I told you."

 • "Huh, no shit?" I said, somewhat surprised. After a moment, though, I decided that it wasn't that unbelievable, considering where I came from. What the hell, I decided, turning back to the Lance Corporal. "Well, while that might be impressive, I'm pretty sure I can top that. 'Cause, you see, I'm from the early 21st century. As in, over 38 millennia ago." I spread my arms to the side. "Now, that isn't even the best part, though, 'cause there still the tiny fact that I still know some about where and when we are. How, you ask?" I let loose another chuckle. "Well, that's because none of this is supposed to exist. Where I come from, the Warp, the Imperium, Chaos, it's all just fiction. Some story someone thought up and put to paper." I shook my head, letting my hands slip into my pockets. "Now, that's somewhat understating things a good bit, but you get the idea. Still leaves the question of who or what brought me here and why. I'm just some college guy studying to become a math teacher. Not sure how knowing the shape of a sine graph is supposed to advance some cosmic being's plans along."

 • "Well, that just wonderful," I grumbled. Of course nobody knew anything - where's the fun in that? I sighed, before I looked to the Blackburn again. "Whatever, that's not important right now. What is important is getting the hell out of here before anything else shows up. You said there were others? Does that mean you guys have a safe area set up somewhere?"

 • "Yep, general quarters, most people stay there, I however come out and find others and lead them back, or look for supplies and such."

 • Well, now we were getting somewhere. "Well, then, Corporal Blackburn, sir," I said, giving a mock salute. "Lead the way."

 • He shook his head and motioned for you to follow. The path was long and the marine moved quickly.

 • I moved to match the marine's pace, having recovered from the chase. "So, you wouldn't happen to have a spare gun I could use, just in case something jumps us, would you?"

 • The marine stopped and nodded, he pointed to a wall panel, lights or something, as neither read gothic. He pulled it off and revealed a cache of weapons. "Take your pick, I couldn't carry them all so I stashed them in different places."

 • Well, that was damn convenient - though it made sense, even beyond what Blackburn had said. If he did make a habit of leading others to safety, it would be a good idea to have stashes of weapons and armor said others could use. Looking over the stash, I quickly picked out a set of flak armor. There were numerous scratches and dings all over it, the right shoulder guard was gone, and the right side was stained a rusty red. The poor bastard who this belonged to before obviously didn't need it anymore. While piss-poor in comparison to literally anything else, it was better than nothing, and seemed to be mostly intact: save the missing shoulder guard, most of the damage seemed superficial at worst. Helmet and chest plate secure, I looked for something to complete the ensemble, and rapidly found it: a lasrifle, along with a bandolier with some grenades and spare power packs. Slotting a bayonet into the sheath at my shoulder, I made a final check of my new wargear, looking over the lasrifle to familiarize myself with the layout: safety and select fire there, mag release here, iron sights intact. Turning to Blackburn, I felt a lot more confident now that I had some firepower of my own. I nodded to show I was ready.

 • "College student, more like. And I do understand how to aim and fire a gun, thanks to my dad. This doesn't seem to be much different, thankfully," I said, setting the stock of the lasrifle against my shoulder. I paused for a moment. "Well, other than the fact that where those fired bullets, this one shoots freakin lasers."

 • "That remains to be seen I suppose, I think we'll need to use our weapons before we reach general quarters." The marine looked around, they were alone for the moment but he could tell that may change. He replaced the panel and motioned for the man to follow him.

 • Doing my level best to not look like an inexperienced idiot, I followed the Corporal's lead, keeping my footsteps soft but quick. I scanned every angle I could think of, even straight up, as the ceiling rose far too high to see. After a while, though, he signaled to me, and I stopped - and then I heard it. More of that damned chanting, coming from just around the next corner.

 • "Cultists at the least, stay here while I check this out. Don't make any noise." The marine activated the cloaking field on his armor and faded from sight.

 • Well, wasn't that damned handy for a lone wolf. Still, he'd given me an order, and odds were he knew how to survive this place better than I did. Until he came back, I decided to make sure nothing snuck up on us from the way we came, sweeping the hall with my lasrifle at the ready.

 • It was some moments before he returned, he shook his head. "No way around them, now way to sneak past. The journey around is two days. There aren't that many of them, how do you feel about putting that weapon to use?"

 • Before saying anything, I took a peek around the corner, ignoring how just looking at the cultists made my head pound. There seemed to be about a dozen of them, wearing at most light makeshift leather armor. Some had the obvious signs of mutation, while others has pieces of metal protruding from their flesh. Far from pretty, but between the two of us, not a problem. Still, didn't hurt to make it hard on them. "Alright," I said turning back around the corner. "Here's the plan: sneak around behind on of this pillars on the right. I'll give you thirty seconds, since we don't have comms, and then I'll toss a flashbang." Pulling said grenade from my bandolier, leaving me with one flash and two frags. "Once this goes off, we catch them in a crossfire, focusing on the ones on the edges of the blast. Sound good?"

 • The marine nodded. "You sure you've not done this before? Alright when the flashbang goes off I'll draw their fire, you keep your head down, got it?" The marine cloaked and moved into position, waiting for the loud bang.
