*Sound seemed to distort outside of Mortar's room a moment. The door was open, but there was nothing there. Nothing, that is, until a spark ignited in the center of the room, and a vertical oval slowly following. Inside the oval was a hazy forest, trees rotting and some ruins somewhat farther back. This was a portal. Mortar stepped through it with ease, then pointed a metal rod at the portal. The portal was getting absorbed by the rod. After that, Mortar sits down, seemingly working on something in a journal while a winged cat weaved between his legs*
Alright, let's see here... day... what day is it? It's June, I know that.
It's June 20th.
*The cat just talked, and Mortar seemed to treat it like a normal thing*
Thanks Mion.
No problem.
June 20th: I have been working on a new way to bring people back...
You have? You've brought them back to the dead before, and now it's easy because everyone that prevented you is gone.
Let me finish. I have been working on a new way to bring people back from the dead with as little side effects as possible. I was successful with bringing back one person, but he died an hour later. Wait, I have a few test subjects!
*Mortar grins at Mion*
Wait, Me? No, no, no. I'm a damn animal of prey, I am a fascination to biologists!
Who told you that?
The owner of the Smithsonian.
Fine, I'll give you that.
But I'm not gonna use you. I have a few enemies in that place I went to, so I'm gonna use them.
