I think it has to do with people who play video games a lot being somewhat socially awkward, and not used to dealing with girls ( •_•)/

Well not even just that, just awkwardness compounded with a need to protect their internet rep(cause their social awkwardness ruins their real life rep). So they get hostile, and touchy

I can see this happening rarely buts its a problem. But 90% of people are fed up with attention seekers so they are gunna hate to voice their opinion. Its a cruel world
