This is a collaborative effort with the Master Lore Post. So, naturally, I'd link it: here
Hello! Today I'll be talking about Warlocks. Not specific ones, but there will be some who have brief descriptions about who they are and what they did. If you want to know more, you can look through the Master Post to find your answer. Let's start with what a Warlock is exactly.
A Warlock is a scholar who studies they Light in order to gain knowledge. Ironically, the most legendary Warlocks (Toland and Osiris) both studied the Darkness and it's inhabits. But most study the Light to gain knowledge and power. At least according to Ikora.
Ok, Subclass time!:
Voidwalker:
First let me say that Void is a type of Light. Voidwalkers stare into the Void and draw power from it. They then use this Space Magic to obliterate their foes!
Sunsinger:
Sunsingers can sing the Sun's Song. I know that sounds confusing, but let me explain. When a Warlock can sing the Sun's Song, they can understand one of the purest forms of Light. Toland states:"I have left searing footprints on the dark side of the Moon. I have stood on the spires of Mercury, chilled by the solar wind. I have stretched my wings, and I have flown. That is what is possible when you understand the Sun's song." Once you know the song and sing it, the enemies of the City will burn!
Stormcaller
I consider this one the oddball. Stormcallers take the static electricity from things around them and direct the Arc stream (not get consumed by it) to the Fallen, Hive, ect. The first Stormcaller and master of Stormtrance was a Warlock trying to imitate the Vex during a Lightning Storm on Mars.
Now to the good stuff: The Legends!
Toland, the Shattered:
Toland the Shattered is, questionably, the most known Lore character out there, along with Saint-14, Kabr and his Fireteam, the Iron Lords (hype), ect. He went out of his way to study the Hive. Toland was eventually exiled from the City after frequently communing with the Darkness (Hive) and because the Speaker didn't like what he talked about. But he never did stop studying the Hive, their Magic, and their ever-expanding lust for Guardian. Eris and Erianna-3 decided they needed his help with the first ever Crota's End raid, so they recruited him along with Sai Mota, Omar Agah, and Vell Tarlowe, to defeat the Hive prince. There he did some weird things (which you can find by either surfing the Master Post) and had his body die whilst doing so, but not permanently. He now is floating between Hive Throne Worlds as a spirit of sorts, mapping them out for us to find.
Sidenote:
Eris Morn is NOT a Warlock, she is a Hunter. Carry on.
Osiris:
Osiris is sort of like Toland, just with an obsession with the Vex, the true nature of the Darkness, and the coming of Oryx. Osiris studied under the Speaker. After the battle of Six Fronts he became the Warlock Vanguard and Commander. After a little falling-out with the Speaker he chose to leave the City (or was exiled, it is unknown) to use what he always studied. He even gained a cult following, who proceeded to follow Osiris to Mercury, if not physically then mentally. The Cult of Osiris was born, and the Cult members wrote two books; The Parables of the Allspring and the Sayings of the Disciples.
Iron Lords Felwinter, Skorri, and Timur:
These guys don't have that much lore in them, except that they have their own weapons. Skorri's Revenge, Timur's Lash, and, of course, Felwinter's Lie. Felwinter was one of the original Iron Lords, and presumable helped secure Felwinter's Peak. Skorri is sometime nori clued as an Iron Lord, but she still sings of what her fallen comrades have done.
Fenchurch Everis:
Fenchurch Everis is an Awoken Warlock and explorer. He was revived in the Martian sands, with nothing but his Ghost and a single Silver coin. Silver, unlike real life silver, is cryptographic, which means someone can have a Silver coin digitally made for them only. Fenchurch goes around planets and finds ancient cultural dances and actions, which explains emotes. Other than this, Fenchurch either makes wild claims or tells interesting stories. He says he's been inside the Traveler (which faintly smells like vanilla), met a tiger inside a Vex conflux, and had the legendary engram named after him.
Albios:
Albios is probably the most unknown Warlock on this list. He lived 5 lives. Lives 1-3 and 5 are missing, so I'll explain Live 4. In his 4th life he was found under a Willow Tree on Venus, with only a Lantern. He was on a mission: Find and Ahamkara. In his final life he did find one, but as stated in the Item Description (yes, his only lore is through item descriptions), but it was too late.
Pujari:
Pujari is a Thanatonautic poet and writer (don't worry, I explain Thanatonautics in a bit). After a vision he had about a random flower-Ghost in the Black Garden saying, "Hey, you're a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill," and gets pricked by the Ghost's thorns and keeps the wound afterwards, he begins to feel doubt. It has been theorized that Pujari is actually Dredgen Yor, infamous Hunter(?) who wielded Thorn, but this isn't about maybe Hunters, now is it? For proof (kinda) look to the Common Warlock Bond, Bond of Will.
Ulan-Tan
Ulan-Tan is a Warlock who believes that everything is even. For every Light there is Darkness. He went on to make a Faction called "The Symmetry." Same thing with the Light and Dark forces, like Guardians vs Hive.
Praedyth::
Praedyth was the Warlock of Kabr's Fireteam. He went in with Kabr and Pahanin wielder of Super Good Advice (And also maybe Osiris). Praedyth was captured by the Vex, and is now stuck in a "time-prison" as I like call it. He sends messages through a little box of wires and cables, and sends them when his prison door is open (in whatever timeline he may be in) and hopes for help. This is clear as most Guardians have done the mission "Paradox," in an effort to save Praedyth and expel the Vault of Taken. Praedyth may be dead in "this" timeline, he may still live just as a non-physical being, but not the others.
Ikora Rey:
A very short-fused person. Ikora Rey is the current Warlock Vanguard as of posting time. During her youth, she'd carry around her signature weapon, Invective. Invective actually means "insulting, abusive, or highly critical language!" But now as the Warlock Vanguard, she's calmed down and is now the leader of a hidden team which makes secret attacks, called "The Hidden." The Hidden are a group of of Guardians (Including Eris Morn)which make hit-and-run raids on enemy strongholds for Warlocks to study.
Erianna-3
Erianna-3 of the Praxic Warlocks was a member of Eris's Fireteam to take on Crota, Hope Eater. She was a Sunsinger and is theorized to have had the Heart of Praxic Fire held tightly to her torso. She even tortured a Hive Wizard to find out what Crota's name was, where to find him, and how to kill him!
Now that I've mentioned Praxic and Thanatonaut, you might be wondering what I mean. So let's get into the groups of Warlocks.
Praxic:
Praxic Warlocks are Warlocks who are more like Titans. They care more about the fight then they do knowing who they're fighting. It's not that they don't like studying, it's just more of a secondary task.
Thanatonauts:
Such a confusing word should be for these confusing people. A Thanatonaut is a Warlock who kills themselves in order to gain visions. A well-known Thanatonaut is Pujari. This comes from the root "Thanato" meaning death.
This is all for now, I will update when I'm asked of. But for now, see ya and keep Lore-ing!

Edited by Qwerty: 6/25/2016 4:12:54 PMSome helpful corrections and additions:
Toland was eventually exiled from the City after frequently communing with the Darkness (Hive)
He was exiled because what he talked about was different from what the Speaker wanted people to hear. Like Osiris, it might spur others to leave their post and try to understand, or they were just annoyed at the doomsaying madman.
and died whilst doing so, but not permanently.
His body is gone. Toland as far as it matters is dead. At least as dead as Osiris. What died that day is permanently dead.
Osiris is sort of like Toland, just with an unhealthy obsession with the Vex
, I'd argue it was pretty healthy. He created revelation after revelation, even inspiring Kabr to join in. Not nearly as unhealthy as Toland, who was willing to kill himself and five others if it meant he could find out the truth (read it like he was wrong! Horribly mad)
Osiris was the to-be Speaker, and studied under him.
Not to-be Speaker. Saint-14 also studied under the Speaker, and probably would have made a better one.
After the battle of Six Fronts he became the Warlock Vanguard.
He was the Warlock Vanguard, in the same way Zavala is the Titan Vanguard, but he was also the Vangaurd Commander- a position held by Zavala. The other two vanguards were Andal Brask and probably (no proof) Saladin or maybe Zavala already.
After a little falling-out with the Speaker he chose to leave the City (or was exiled, it is unknown)
He was exiled on the official report and is not allowed to come back to the City, but he did leave willingly.
to study what he always studied.
to ACT on what he always studied.
I(n) his 5th life he was found under a Willow Tree on Venus, with only a Lantern.
His 4th life was spent in the Swamps of Venus, beneath the shade of a willow tree. The Swamp took everything from him, so all he had was the willow tree and a latern. His 4th, not 5th.
He was on a mission: Find (an) Ahamkara
We do not know why he was there. All we know is that the swamp consumed everything he had, and eventually he died. Then he met an Ahamkara on his 5th life.
Ulan-Tan
I would also add that because this is true, then so is the Duality of Light and Dark. Which is how we beat Oryx, recognizing and wielding the blighted Light that was basically Darkness at that point.
Praedyth may be dead in "this" timeline, but not the others.
Praedyth is not dead, really, he is nonexistent. He was sucked out of our plane of existence and trapped out of time. He is not "alive in other timelines" because he is not. He does not exist. One day he could find his way out of out-of-time, but he would be a new man. In most sci-fi, he would return a baby. Being a Guardian, he will return a man.
The Hidden are a group of Warlocks (And one Eris Morn) which make hit-and-run raids on enemy strongholds.
The Hidden are not a group of Warlocks, they are a group of Guardians working to gather vital intel FOR Warlocks. I would also like to add Osiris is friendly with the Hidden.
Thanatonauts:
Thanatos, Greek Grim Reaper Argonauts, Greek Explorers of the Mythos Put 'em together, Thanatonauts- Explorers of Death. Also, we do not actually know Pujari is a Warlock. People say that because what Pujari does is Warlock in nature, but the Dredgen Yor theory works if you imagine Pujari a Hunter with a vast imagination. On the other hand, one could assume Pujari is a warlock because of the Thanatonautics. I would argue that the way the grimoire says "Warlock Thanatonauts" and not just "Thanatonauts" the majority of the time might suggest something. Or that Pujari is much more about visions and paintings on all things than understanding death. More than a Thanatonaut. Not that I actually think Dredgen Yor is another named legend. Anyway, hope this helps. Its annoying seeing a 'master post' thread containing misinformation and hopefully what I've added helps to bring even more knowledge to the place.
