There should be some way to know how soon a patrol event will occur.

...in game. It breaks the illusion of the adventure to have to seek external resources for this stuff. I also don't think a timer is the best way. Perhaps you could get clues about when these events are about to occur from the displays in the Vanguard hall. Surely the tower is tracking falling Warsats!
