Me and a buddy decided to start home brewing a few years back. We've only been doing it for about two years. This last year we decided to get more serious and make our own recipes and start entering competitions for feedback.
Our first one a few months back we won people's choice with a vanilla coffee brown ale. That got us really excited obviously.
Our second one we again won people's choice with the brown. We even had people who were at the first competition come just so they could have more.
Last week our Strawberry Saison won its category and made it to the Best of Show category overall, scoring 43/50 BJCP certified.
And last weekend we scored second place with a Wee Heavy scotch ale. We didn't enter the coffee brown because we could only enter one and we knew it was good. We'll the judges said the brown easily would've won if we entered. And again our booth had the most votes overall with peoples choice though individually no beer won. So I guess now I have to quit my job and do this full time right? Anyone want to lend me a small loan of $500,000?

You had me at vanilla coffee brown ale. As someone who helps bottle and works beer festivals for a craft brewery, good luck. Its a great endeavor and positive feedback goes a long way.

You should reach out to Steve of Steves on Bnet. From what I hear, he's loaded.

Edited by Suppressing Fire: 7/1/2016 2:27:04 AMThat's awesome! Not sure where you're from, but Minnesota has some damn good craft breweries, and really enjoy local brew. I'd always love to try it as a hobby, but I have enough crap going on as of now, but I'd love to try it sometime.

I have an interest in craft beer, kind of like a occasional daydream kind of passion, but I still haven't found it upon myself to purchase the kits and/or the equipment to begin the brewing process myself. I guess another issue I have is knowing whether or not the stuff I'm working with would be of a good value/quality. But I'm super excited to hear that someone from this community is in Craft Brewing, and everything (especially the vanilla coffee brown ale) sounds really good. Usually when I think of coffee, I immediately assume it's a stout or a porter, I only ever had a couple of brown ales (seems like a European thing)- But the best of luck, and will keep an eye out for a link for a website? (maybe a kickstarter?) let us know asap!s

Grats, my dad is a home brewer in Houston and has won 3 local brewing competitions so far. I built his brewing rig as one of my final projects when I was in college for welding. Pictured above.

Way to go Jay! I'd totally loan you that money if I had it lying around. If it's something that you're seriously considering then there are venture capitalists out there that love investing in craft beer.
