Mostly, Solar Rounds (etc.) just seemed cool. Imagine charging Arc Light into your clip while reloading, sticking in an electric Mag. Freaking sick. It's mostly just an alternative to dealing more concentrated damage instead of spread out like a grenade.
Inverse was mostly inspired by Left 4 Dead, so yeah, Valve/Counter Strike... 180 no scopes.
