Wait wtf am I if I joined a month after release of vanilla?
[spoiler]as far as I know everyone was still trying ti figure out how the VoG worked and I was forever 29 until Dark Below dropped months later. The only things I missed were the original loot cave and the Queens Wrath when it came to the Tower for one time and that time only [/spoiler]

You didn't miss anything. Standing on a rock shooting into a cave for mostly green and blue engrams was about as bad is it gets. Exotic engrams weren't even a thing and purple drops were rare as hell and turned into blue items half the time. You missed nothing.
