The support for Trump is initially baffling. I found the following articles insightful: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/07/how-american-politics-went-insane/485570/ http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/11/george-saunders-goes-to-trump-rallies TL;DR people are not so much pro-Trump as anti-politics. They are frustrated, disillusioned and believe there must be simple, easy solutions to complex problems, and this is precisely what Trump appears to offer. He's the OxyContin of American politics.
