When Tlaloc's Exotic Perk is Active, it should gain elemental damage matching your Subclass.
This makes sense Story-wise, since the Overflow perk is using the Warlock's Light to power the gun.
And since the weapon is all about trading your super, it seems fair that you should be able to use it for elemental damage your super would have done.
Also, we need more Exotic Elemental Primaries other than Zhalo Supercell, and this seems like a good place to start.
p.s. You know how Bishop from X-Men can channel energy into his gun? Same idea.
The gun already wrecks why add elemental damage to a gun only one subclass can use? Then for every nightfall all you would see is - Must be Warlock Must have Tlaloc posts so you can use an elemental primary. And why when the Titans auto rifle is the biggest piece of sh1t would you make this one even better? Bungie does need to add two new exotic primaries of the other burns to even it out. Or as I have suggested numerous times on other posts, add a feature where when you dismantle an elemental primary from the early raids you are given an elemental sphere of light that you can infuse into any legendary primary giving people heaps of options for elemental primary weapons.
