So where do the ghosts fit in all this?

Of course as we all know there's the huge theory that we (Guardians) and the Traveler are evil. We are resurrected to blindly do the bidding of the Traveler and Speaker without batting an eye. But what about the mini Travelers... or Ghosts I mean. Where do they fit into all of this? We know they're made from the traveler's light but we don't know what they're conscious of. They can have all the evil knowledge and motives of the Traveler, but at the same time they can possibly be in the dark just as we Guardians are. Another thing to note in that case is that the Ghosts are their own conscious beings as we see throughout the storyline. He has his own little sassy personality and what not. What if he does know what evil quest he is leading us through but maybe even feels his own remorse, being forced by his creator to do as he says. Maybe he's just another manipulative evil AI... Perhaps we aren't the only ones being mislead. Or perhaps Rasputin is our only ally.

  • Given the delays, complete rewrites, delays to Destiny 2, the change in voice actor and the fact we've not heard from the speaker since Vanilla, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Bungie have absolutely no idea what the story for this universe is and it's pointless to guess.

  • I've always disliked the ghost because of it's inherent distaste for the fallen. Ikora and Zavala recognize the fallen for what they've been through and are forced to fight a war with an enemy that they wish they didn't have, but Cayde and our Ghost hate the fallen for petty things like smell and cleanliness and that just pisses me off.

    • As far as the grim and cut scenes tell us, the ghosts don't have knowledge about the Traveler or their own creation. Most likely they are acting a defensive protocol until given another command by the Traveler. I would argue they do not have free will because over the course of hundreds of years since the Collapse no Ghost has ever pursued a life other than that of any other ghost. If they truly were free, a small minority of rebellious ghosts should exist.

      • Rasputin let us die, doesn't offer any help, always asks to be saved, and wants to learn how to traverse timelines. He's not an enemy, but he isn't an ally. He didn't even thank us for waking him up.

        • Rasputin certainly isn't our ally. As for evil traveller, that was the old story, dead and long gone. Books of Sorrow go a long way to disproving that theory.

          • Look at it like this, best described by popebear from planet destiny The traveler was a rolling stone Knocking up women(planets with sentient life) as it traveled the universe The traveler found a new lady friend to court(us) we got pregnant(the darkness) The traveler tried to leave town but Rasputin (our father) pulled out his shotgun and blew off the travelers legs so it cant leave And the ghosts are child support

          • Guardians do nothing blindly, they destroy forces that destroyed us, thats all there is, if the speaker told a guardian to start killing residents of the city, do you really think they would do it?

The idea that the Traveler is evil is compete nonsense and people need to stop touting it as gospel. It isn't an exaggeration to say quite literally everything in the lore and story so far would need to retconned for it to even be a possibility. The idea is outright refuted at every turn.

I believe they have their own consciousness, but are being mislead and lied to by the traveller along with the guardians. Kind of like the Christian God and Satan thing. He creates the angels, Satan says -blam!- you, then everything goes wrong. But in this case (and most likely the case in Christianity, if you believe that silly stuff) Satan is the good guy. All we have to do now is wait for one of these ghosts to catch on and start some shit.
