The Elder Scrolls Lore #4.5: Morrowind History and the Dwemer

If you're here I bet you saw my last post. Sorry that this couldn't be there... The Houses and Town and City section took up a lot of space. But today I'll be talking about what I missed. I'll probably put a link to this in the last one. But without further ado, let's get onto it! History This all starts when a group of Elves where exiled from the Summerset Isles for the worship of the Daedric Lords. You may think that these are the Dunmer we see today, but actually they aren't. They're called the Chimer. So the Chimer were led by the Prophet Veloth to the northeastern province of Morrowind. Once they arrived they realized they weren't alone. Another race of Elf, the Dwemer. The word "Dwarf" is actually a Nordic mistranslation of Dwemer. If you've ever went to Morrowind, Skyrim, or Stros K'kai, you'd have seen that they aren't small, based on their armor alone. The word Dwemer could be translated into either Small Folk, Smart Folk, or Deep Folk (intellectually deep, although the did live underground). The Dwemer, as I'll refer to them from now on, were the most technologically advanced race on Tamriel, maybe even Nirn. They build animunculi (spiders, spheres, ect) to help build or protect. You may be wondering,"Why are their Dwemer in Stros M'kai?" Well, a group of Dwemer left in self exile and migrated to Hammerfell at around 1E 420. If you don't know, Stros M'kai is an island off the coast of Hammerfell. At first, Morrowind was called Velothi, then Dunmereth, then when the Chimer and Dwemer united it was named Resdayn. I'll get to the Chimer/Dwemer alliance soon. I can't talk about the Dwemer without talking about Keening, Sunder, Wraithguard, and of course Numidium, the Dwemeri Brass God. Keening was a sword of sorts, Sunder was a hammer, and Wraithguard was a gauntlet. For what? Tapping the power of the mythic Heart of Lorkhan! They were planning on using the Heart to power the Numidium, a God made from a Dead God. Later, Tiber Septim would use Numidium at low power due to the lack of the Heart to encapsulate the Summerset Isles into his Empire. While the Chimer were divided into Tribes, the Snow Elves of Skyrim were in a war with their slaves: the Nords. The Snow Elves had to retreat underground, where they found the hospitality of the Dwemer. Unbeknownst to the Snow Elves, the Dwemer where feeding them a fungus that would make them blind, as the Dwemer didn't trust the Snow Elves. The worst part was, while the Dwemer were making this underground fungus apart of their diet, the Snow Elves were slowly become slaves. They were no longer Snow Elves, but the Falmer. Though, the Snow Elves would eventually flee further deeper underground. For years, a hidden war was being fought under Skyrim, called the War of the Crag. But one day, when the Snow Elves went to meet their makers, but they were just hollow suits of armor... Thin air in metal suits. The Falmer were free to explore the Dwemer realm of Blackreach, but years of war had made them into blood-thirsty killers. Eventually, the conflicting ideas of praising Daedra for the Chimer, and the mockery of Ed'Ata (Aedra + Daedra) for the Dwemer had led to a war between armies. One day a Indoril Warlord named Nerevar wanted to make his race and the Dwemer unite. He thought that the war could leave Morrowind under attack by the Nords of Skyrim. He asked a smith to make him a ring of persuasion, and enchanted it so that anyone but him who'd where it would die. Using the persuasive power of the ring, Nerevar made an agreement with the Dwemeri King Dumac to end the war and expunge all forces of Skyrim from Morrowind. The Kingdom of Resdayn was born! Then one day, Dagoth Ur of House Dagoth, informed Nerevar that the Dwemer had found the Heart of Lorkhan, and that Kagrenac, a Dwemeri Architect, was planning on making tools for taping it's power. The use of the Unholy Heart is blasphemous to all Elves, and the War of the First Council took place. There are two different interpretations of what happened. Here's number one: Nerevar and Dagoth Ur made it into the Heart chamber and killed Dumac and Kagrenac. Nerevar summoned Azura, a Daedric Prince, for a way to separate the Heart and the Dwemer. The Dwemeri race then turned to thin air. Nerevar thought Dagoth Ur could protect the tools. Nerevar went to talk with the Tribunal, a group made up of the three Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil. The three then turned and killed Nerevar. The Tribunal used the power of the Heart to become immortal. Azura materialized. She cursed all of the Chimer with red eyes and ash-colored skin. Dagoth tried revenge but failed. Azura said that Berevar would come back and end them. Second account: Dumac fell during the Battle of Red Mountain. Kagrenac then used the Heart and vanished. Dagoth Ur was entrusted with the tools while Nerevar went to talk to the Tribunal. The Tribunal tried to use the Heart but Nerevar made them make an oath to Azura. When the four returned to the Heart Chamber Dagoth went crazy, refusing to give up the tools. After a short fight, Dagoth fled and Nerevar later died. The Tribunal broke the oath and became godlike. Azura cursed the Chimer with red eyes and dark skin, thus the Dunmer where born. Regardless of the account, the Dwener disappeared, The Tribunal were gods who ruled Morrowind, and the Dunmer were made. Late in the third Era, the Ashlander Nerevarine prophesy came true, when someone realized they were destined to slay the Tribunal and cut there ties to the Heart so they wouldn't live. He also killed Dagoth Ur (I say why in my last post). The Tribunal each had their own city. Above Vivec's city an asteroid was flung by Sheogorath, fan favorite Daedric lord. A group managed to keep it in the air, and made it into a prison. With Vivec and his power gone the people made a device to keep it suspended. This device, though, was powered by souls. The machine broke and the Rick crashed into Vivec's city, making Red Mountain erupt. Morrowind became almost completely inhospitable. Ah. It feels nice to get this off my chest! If you like this just comment nice things! If I missed anything let me know and I might be able to fit it in...
