I don't like this idea only because I like to see guardians who look different and ultimately this would make that visual variety less common. It would be a bit like the Crota's End period, when everyone looked very similar (apart from which exotic they were using).

The variety is already almost nonexistent

Even without this there isn't too much variety. Raid, Taken, and Faction armor are the most used. I rarely see anyone in full Vanguard or Crucible (unless you're a die-hard Seahawks fan, then rocking all Crucible is the only way to go). I like the idea of matching armor for different bonuses because people have different play styles, and at least everyone would look fashionably correct. It makes me cringe when I see people with one piece of armor from different sets, and then a shader and an exotic to make it stand out even more. There are some ugly guardians out there! 😀
