No need to explain why you're here, but first let me explain the "Khajiiti" Monomyth.
The Khajiiti Monomyth
You may know what a Monomyth is, and if you've been with me the entire week and a half or so then you already know one. It's the Elven way, with Anu and the others (forgot their names).
I put "Khajiiti" in quotation marks because it's extremely similar to another creation myth. I can't recall it now, so if you know tell me.
In the Khajiiti creation myth it's said that the First Cat, Ancestral Mother, Fadomai selected her favorite daughter, Azurah, to take a race of Tamriel and make them better and name them Khajiit. And by better they mean most clever, fastest, and most beautiful people of all.
So Azurah went down to Tamriel and found a race between Man and Beast, named them what Fadomai told her to name them, and gave them the best deserts and jungles of Tamriel, or even Nirn. She taught them how valuable secrecy is, and made the cat people into many shapes.
This story suggests that the Khajiit weren't the Khajiit at first, but became Khajiit after the Khajiiti version of Azura. You may have figured that out. But you may be thinking,"Are there any other cat-gods?" Yes there are, I think I mentioned one last time. Just in case, though, let's run through some of them. You may know them based on how eerily similar the names are to other gods.
Alkosh, Dragon King of Cats
Yep. Alkosh is their Khajiit version of Akatosh, Imperial Dragon God of Time. It's said that he was an Anequinine Deity. I'll get to that long word later, all you need to know for now is that it was a Kingdom of the northern Deserts. The Khajiit of the Desert say Dragons are just really big cats. During the Mythic Era, Alkosh stopped an Elven pogrom (an organized massacre of a specific race) against the Khajiit.
Riddle'Thar
Revealed to Elsweyr by an early Mane, Rid-Thar-ri'Datta, instead of a single deity the Riddle'Thar is more of Khajiit rules and guides of how to live. It's the cosmic order deity of Khajiiti religion, and now that I think about it seems like their version of the Daedric Prince Jyggalag, the Daedric Prince of Order.
Jode and Jone
These two represent the moons, and are aspects/a part of the Lunar Lattice, which depicts what form a Khajiit will take once born. They also represent fate.
Mara, the Mother Cat
She is an almost universal goddess. Mara used to be the Goddess of Fertility, the Khajiit associate her with the female principal of the cosmos, which I assume is why there are females.
S'rendarr, God of Mercy
S'rendarr is really close the Stendarr, the Imperial God of Righteous. He's associated with charity, justice, and compassion.
Magrus:
The God of the Sun, he's closely tied to magic (not as much as Azurah) and almost identical to Magnus.
Onto actually history!
History:
The First interactions with Khajiit were made by Topal who I mentioned in the Argonia post. He found them near where the Imperial City would be, not in Elsweyr. They caused him much stress for fear of being jumped.
In the earliest days there were 16 peaceful Khajiiti Kingdoms in Elsweyr. No fight! Each place had its own jobs, supplying it's neighbors with the resources they had in trade for their neighbors items.
For thousands of years this peace maintained, until the Thrassian Plague wiped out almost all the kingdoms in 1E 2260. Only two kingdoms survived: Pa'alatiin and Ne Quin-al, or Pellitine and Anequina.
The two kingdoms were drastically different in culture, but both representing the moons. One had a Warrior culture, the Desert Anequina. The other had a wealthy way of life, the Jungled Pellitine. They each fought, never gaining anything substantial.
But when Kiergo of Anequina and Eshita of Pellitine married in 2E 309 the land united, and they changed their land after a Khajiit saying: "A perfect society is always found elsewhere." Thus Elsweyr was born. That or it was from something the Riddle'Thar promised, a paradise land.
The lands were peaceful, and when they were absorbed into the Empires of History (except Tiber) they rebelled. The Khajiit try to collect gold by trafficking drugs to their provinces. They have stopped books from entering, as they fear false Imperial word. Elsweyr has engaged in wars with Valenwood, specifically the five year war, which gained Elsweyr some land, while they peacefully lost land to Cyrodiil.
You made it! Do you ever not? Well, enough of my typing. I've got a Walking Dead tour to enjoy...
