And it's by far the best way I have been able to read into the broken ties of the story! It told me everything from beginning to end on what has been told via grimoire cards to things bungie will fill us in on to things that are still in question yet people have their own fan-fictions on already. By far the best read all month long. Bungie please keep up the good work and continue filling these holes in this amazing storyline. Hope you Guardians enjoy these articles.
Edit 1: Needless to say this article is now trending haha! I'm glad everyone is enjoying this backstory. I have read it all and I really hope that Bungie expands more on this story and the holes that lie within it all.
Edit 2: I have read a good portion of comments and how people are annoyed at the fact that some outer source had to tell this story. I can agree with that but at the same time I wouldn't want a storybook implanted in the game to tell you these things. I want to play out the Collapse. I want to play out the battle of Twilight Gap. I want to play these events instead of reading an article. And I probably won't be able to play them but my guardian might be able to relive them or even better find a way to go back in time and reverse history. I'm telling you this storyline has potential out the butthole. Let's hear your fan-fictions!!
Edit 3: I see that people would prefer to not have to read the story of the game outside the game itself. I can understand that but also there are a lot of games that have a hidden storytelling and RPG'S especially fall victim to these categories. I'm someone who runs to where the cursor is and picks up the mission and turn it in without reading the essay that they have in the mission description within that bounty. I miss out on a lot of the story because I have things I want to do. I want to get to the action. I wanna shoot the aliens. Not read hours of text when I can easily do that in my off hours/work (I work in a job that doesn't really require extensive attention). But I could probably also agree that there should be a in game grimoire/story book on the previous events that took place before "Destiny"

Bump for later. Finally after 2 years i actually understand whats goin on in destiny, sort of.
-
awesome
-
after paying so much money for the games , then additional contents , them microtransactions , its the least they can do to deliver some sort of explanation to compensate the lacking ingame story and grimoore cards ... not impressed
-
Why is this story not in the game?
-
Awesome. This is just what we needed. Another third-party site where we can try to make sense of the "rich & cinematic experience" they call Destiny's story.
-
in the first 10 paragraphs you ignored a key detail. Rasputin shot down the Traveller
-
Quality read. I knew most of story already, but it's good to bone up on it before RoI hits. Thanks for the link. :)
-
So they took the story out of the game and put it into the grimoire trading card deck (I'm amazed they didn't sell the grimoire to us a few at a time in RNG card packs with foil versions as super rare drops). And now they're taking the story to gameinformer articles... Amazing.
-
"Rich cinematic storytelling" Kek
-
Yeah but like. Should you really have go somewhere besides in game to find out a games story line? That's a bit lame
-
Once again people praise Bungie for putting the story elsewhere instead of in the actual game...surprise o' the century there.
-
If I could could go somewhere in the tower and actually read up on the lore I would spend the time to do so but since I can't then I think it's just a lazy effort of bungie
-
I never bothered with reading the grimoire cards, but I have spent about an hour to read the gameinformer's article. I have to say it was a great read, Destiny does actually have a story, it's just non-existent in the actual game, which is very sad. Imagine if we saw all of these things in the game itself...

Bump ffor later

If I wanted to read a book then I would buy one. This is a game and I want to play it not to read it....pff
-
Is Agent Nine (Xur) some sort of 'Dragon' race?
-
Such a good article, is like having all the pieces of ya jigsaw put together for ya lol
-
This was a great read. A bunch of stuff we already knew from the grimoire but a few things that at least I had missed before this, like the origin behind Crimson Doubles and it looks like they may have just hinted at what the pve component of SRL is going to be.

Dude, you know there is multiple Youtube channels, podcast, Slack chats and reddit subforums dedicated to Destiny's lore, right? This article blows it on a big story point, too: Rasputin sees that the Traveler is about to skip out on us. Rasputin attacks the Traveler, grounding him. The Traveler, in a last ditch effort, as calculated by Rasputin, creates the Ghosts so The Solar Systems inhabitants make defend themselves and, ultimately, repair The Traveler. THEN Rasputin goes silent until our Guardians come up.
-
I thought Rasputin also "wounded" the Traveler so it couldn't abandon us like it did the Fallen
-
Edited by jhutch_91: 8/26/2016 3:03:46 AMAnd some of that is actually misleading. In some of the grimoire cards the traveler actually tried to leave like it did the fallen. But something stopped it And in the grimoire it makes hints that a warmind stopped the traveler from leaving And of course only warmind we know is Rasputin I know this because I listened to the planet destiny podcast about it was about 3-4 weeks ago they had some more guys on that basically knew everything Go check out planet destiny podcast Edit 1: I know it's just what the cards say That's why I said misleading and not that the cards were true Open to all theories. I just want some answers from bungo!

I feel like I didn't know anything about Destiny prior to Taken King. I've been playing since the beta and I feel like I really understand the backstory now. Pretty sure when Bungie saw people upset about the grimoire being outside the game and people having questions, they made more cutscenes and really explained the story by the time Taken King came out. Hopefully they continue with this way of story telling in the game, move the story forward, and explain the history with RoI gameplay.
