Speculation, not confirmed. Some belive he had already shut himself down before the traveller was damaged. There's also a protocol (can't remember it's name) that Rasputin never initiated. Some have hypothesized that this protocol was to cripple the traveller. But he didn't initiate it. I hope RoI gives us a better understanding of the golden age and collapse.
