Destiny has lots of story, if you watch game of thrones I think the story will be like that, one thing one minute and another the next but in the end all will end up being resolved. I like the way they are doing the story personally, they are giving little bits here and there and creating a base for what is too come. I think a lot more will be explained in destiny 2. think of destiny as a building block (fragmented) over the years it will be defragmented and make a lot of sense. also read the grimoire cards (its got a lot of back story)
