They definitely created an amazing world with a rich history and mythical characters. After putting about a month of my life into the game, though, I still don't feel like much of substance has happened in game. I don't feel like I've been given much access to that amazing world they created. And part of that is I don't feel like my Guardian has played an active role in the story. So I don't feel invested in my Guardian because my Guardian isn't invested in the story.
Instead of doing important things, I'm watching a character watch important people do important things. My Guardian is only valuable when something needs to be murdered. My Guardian makes no choices and has no meaningful ties to anyone or anything.
Still, I love the game, which is evident by the month of my life I've put into it.

Totally. TTK was a big step in the right direction. ROI is a really good opportunity to delve into the world's history.
