Honestly if they bring Fusion Rifles into Destiny 2, I hope they significantly change the mechanics of the weapon. It doesn't just need a buff.......... The thing needs to work in a completely different way....
Imagine if simply pulling the trigger caused it to emit an bolt of low density plasma with a range similar to perhaps a side arm, or maybe a hand cannon, so you can fire rapid rounds if you desire, or you can hold down the trigger, letting the vacuum chamber build a charge of high density plasma and fire it off in a burst, the longer you hold down the trigger, the denser it becomes, so you can get 25%, 50%,, 75%, then 100% of maximum containment, once you hit that point you only have a few seconds to either fire or discharge the unit before it automatically fires to prevent the weapon from exploding in your hand.... The variability of playstyle this would bring to this weapon would quickly make it a favorite, and probably the most fun to use of any of the weapons... Plus it would be something that actual people would actually use. The fusion rifle as it exists today I can only presume is a wrecking tool from a Golden Age demolition equipment company that's been re-purposed into a weapon.
And instead of sidearms being a special weapon, they were merged with hand cannons, offering a high rate of fire, low impact alternative to the low rate of fire high impact hand cannon.
But you know how it is. Suggest that Bungie change anything and people freak out.
