That's a good Long-range/Mid-range combo. Another good combo is when using one of the primary weapons that is actually a special weapon .....like NLB or (ugh) Universal Remote. The fusion rifle will give you the mid-range firepower to keep rushers out of your grill if you're maining NLB....but the reach to go out and get people who are trying to stay out of UR's range.
