My experience is that 99/100 matches there is at least one red bar player.
Also from my experience i can say that one of those red bars is the host.
And the host has red bar, because everybody is playing on his connection.
Probably he has a very good ping, but too poor bandwidth for all players to play on. That's why red bars are mostly MVP's- they are hosting, so nr. 1 connection which counts.
This is the reason that after 2 years there are still red bars, every match......Bungie won't ban them, because they know it's P2P's matchmaking-system's fault.
Everybody knows that when you have very bad internet (red bar), you can't make a kill. Have tried it myself.
-
No but they seem to get it. All red bar shows is a persons connection to host. This deals with internet type and distance
-
I honestly thought the opposite of this. I thought the host would be green bared because everyone is connecting to him/her. I have a very low ping and great bandwith. I've only red bared when joining a match in progress. I feel I am the host of most matches I play.
-
I always wonder how many actually lag switch? When you are ahead in points then whole other team suddenly drops to yellows and reds making them impervious to bullets and melees, then go back to green at the end of the match when they have caught up to win. I have no idea who actually is cheating, but I report people that go red to green and ice skate across the map.

Edited by NYDIBS: 9/1/2016 11:10:52 PMme, I always thought damn those red bars look hot, we should have more of these now that's all we see. green bars suck I also thought it would be cool if we could teleport. 2/2

Servers were weird for me this morning. More people rubber banding than I have ever seen yet everyone was green bar. Heck, one lobby I joined started a match and I was the only person that connected so it was a free win.
-
I have been thinking the same thing ^_^
-
makes sense I guess
-
It makes sense. I've played on trash connection and I can't kill anything, so unless you lags witch, I don't think you can kill in true lag.
-
Nah not the host. The problem seems to me that one red bar produces more, as a match goes on and the data traffic gets more and more lost/delayed whatever happens to it, more and more red bars appear. Doesn't mean those red bars are lagging though, in my experience Ping is far more important in cutting down lag. The amount of laggy green bars in this game though, now that's bungies best work!
-
I'm from UK, haven't been red bar in my life. And even when I'm matched with red bar lag masters, my Internet speed resonates so much it makes their pitiful connection to adjust to me, therefore everybody is green and the game is solid. *who wants to touch me? . . . *I said who wants to fuking touch me?*
-
Red bars are a)the guys with crap Internet, b)the guys 3,000 miles away from you and/or c)scrubs running lag switches.
-
Where are these god tier red bar connections. Because when I red bar it puts a big sign over my bathing suit area that says please punch as hard as you can.
-
If the host is the red bar, then it is every other players fault that he is lagging. The game picks the host with the best network statistics eg nat type, and real time download/ upload speeds, and compares and picks the best one. If they are lagging, it is because their connection to other players that they are trying to brings together sucks, hence the name peer-to-peer connection.

Does anyone notice when you take your fire team to the tower, your teammates arrive later than you?
-
Aaaaannnnndd he's usually the top of the leader board with a Hunter or a Titan and running around with Universal Remote! Just accept it you know it's true! Lol
-
i was thinking the same thing.
-
I saw a little level 2 at the tower teleporting all over the place.. Checked and sure enough red bar as it gets. I thought to myself the future of the crucible is secure.
-
I normally die before I notice bar colours. Unless they are selling beer
-
I played a match the other day and finally got fed up with a guy on the other team that was teleporting all over the place, not taking damage from supers, etc. Of course he was the top player. I never send messages, I just report but like I said; I was fed up. So, I tell the guy "You're either cheating or playing on a really bad connection, so I reported you for both". He responds:"Sorry, bad weather here". At first I'm thinking "oh my bad". Then I realize "F-CK this guy". He's either full of shit, or he knows he's playing on a shitty connection and doesn't care. Pissed me off.
-
I never really checked, but I have red bar quite often. Still on some kind of shitty 2mbps down speed which is normally ok. Noticed it only goes red when other people in the house are using the Internet. Smart tv downstairs always gettin yt etc streamed on it.
-
I've lived out in the country with satellite internet and can assure you that red bars aren't hosts unless I was the host of every pvp match I've had since destiny released. I've moved now and haven't had a red bar since. It's just bad internet. I've hosted games with that satellite internet with 800+ ping and I was the green bar while everyone that connected to me was red.
-
The only time when everyone is full green bar is if players live in such close proximity towards each other that being host barely affects anything. With SBMM being so tight at the moment, full green bar lobbies are impossible unless in the lowest tiers of the algorithm.
-
I don't think that's the case. When I see myself with a red bar I am never the host. But when I am everyone is green. Except for the guy from Austria.
-
If host is red, it mostly makes all red, mostly for me red bar is caused because of sbmm, matching me with east coast players, while I'm from another side of the globe, which is the reason for lots of red bars
-
No there's usually still red bars because there's no region match making so people get put into matches with people from other countries that they wouldn't go into if they could. I get thrown into matches with Americans or Europeans all the time, playing from Australia with our horrible internet that we can do nothing about can be quite punishing most of the time
-
I report red bars at the tower.
